I'd like to think I didn't get ripped off buying OpenQuant

  1. Exactly. That's why we are planning to offer a free version of OQ. We also want to add a more professional trading front end, so that traders who currently only need charting / execution capabilities would be interested to try the application and then use its automated strategy development features.

    "Open" can (of course) mean more than one thing, so you shouldn't jump to conclusions.

    I've always understood OpenQuant to be open because it is easy to integrate with other solutions. This is because it is built on .NET. Also the term open software came much earlier than open source software.

    If this was indeed a marketing tactic it would be terribly inefficient. What's the point in luring people to your store only to find out immediately that you are selling something else than they thought?

    OpenQuant may have shortcomings but there's no reason to criticise the name.
