IB's Stubborn Defendants

Discussion in 'Interactive Brokers' started by TraderSU, Feb 5, 2009.

  1. My question is Dman, why do you feel you should defend IB? I like my Honda but if someone else voices a complaint against them I couldn't care less. Why do you feel you should spend time defending IB from what you percieve as unjust criticisms?

I don't. But I understand why others do.

As I said before, they (anti-IBers) spread both disinformation and misinformation about IB.

That harms traders. It creates fear and mistrust. Trading is hard enough without having to have in the back of your mind, FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt). And it also drives away some who would benefit from IB but decide to go with other brokers who don't offer the services of IB.

Worst of all, it reinforces a culture of a lack of personal responsibility. I believe that IB raised their initial opening deposit to weed out the noobs who would burden IB staff with their many easily solvable issues.

  3. On my system, which has decent speed, the TWS login box takes a few minutes to load. After I've entered my login info (including the numerical codes), it takes another few minutes for the TWS application to load and start.

Why does it take 5 minutes to launch TWS? Seems rather unnecessary and crude. Other wise, I'm happy with IB.

  4. Login box takes about 6 seconds here. Enter username/pass, then the security box pops up, enter code and TWS is launched in about 10 seconds. Not sure what's going on with your setup. My machine is fast but yours would have to be way, way underpowered to be causing the delays you're experiencing. You said it's not, so it must be something else. How about your internet connection?

Thanks, you've confirmed I've got problems unique to my systems at home and at work, both of which take forever to load TWS, which is why I assumed a TWS issue. Internet connections are both fast. Hmmm, maybe there's a setting I need to tweak. Much obliged for your feedback.

Are you using the browser based TWS or the standalone TWS?

Hmmm...The standalone is a pretty quick loader. Definitely a problem there.

  9. Maybe a Java issue, although I believe I have the latest. Will look into it.

  10. Martin, the only time I had significant problems with TWS in the past couple of years, a tech at IB had me roll Java back a couple of builds. Not sure if a recent update to the latest Java is causing your problems, but it's something to consider.
