I want to trade equity options via IB. What would be the ideal order size to get the trade automatically filled by a given exchange ?

    Thanks.

    utamaro,
It depends greatly on the product and the specialist/market. Certain products will have autoex capability for upto 50 lots, others less. At other times specialist or exchanges may turn off the autoex to route orders to the crowd - in effect so they do not have to honor their posted prices. If using best execution, IB will first attempt to route orders to exchanges where the autoex is turned on and thus provide with a fast fill. This hopefully will avoid the aggrevation of waiting for a fill while your order gets "worked" inside a pit.

Thanks for your reply def. I want to trade options on QQQ and the holders. Any suggestions on these ?

Today I asked the helpdesk whether it's possible to transfer assets from my Datek account to IB. They state that only cash transfer is allowed. Can you confirm this. I ask this because I've some options on Unilever that are routed to CBOE. On the Amex I can get a far more better price so I want to trade them via my IB account.

When disabling the auto-exec functionality, I assume that they don't do this for liquid option series ?

As mentioned, I no longer trade the US markets actively thus can't give you a detailed opinion on the QQQ's other than they are very deep and very active. Thus I do not think you'll have a problem with them on the auto-ex. I do think the more liquid an option is the less likely it will be turned off auto-ex but again that can be a function of how accurately the specialist updates the prices on the board more than anything.

    Def,

I'm a customer with your company and I trade the E-mini
    S&P.
I have noticed frequentlyb that quotes are lagging
when the market start to move fast or when volume
    surges.
I believe that this started to happen when the commision
where lowered from 10 to 6 dollar on 1 december.
Can you tell this to the programmers ?
I believe that this lagging of the quotes should have
no effect on the executing of orders at the REAL
    market price, correct ?

    Regards,
    Virgin.

    virgin,
that's the first I've heard of any quote problems on futures. I'm surprised to hear that you have a delay as I noted some recent comments that our futures pricing is usually better and more reliable than the quote providers. I'll definately pass your comment along to the appropriate people.

As far as order entry, what you send in to the exchange will be delievered to the exchange. For example if our price feed link was down and our routes were up, you would still be able to submit an order to the exchange as long as you specified the price.

def could you please get someone to help me figure out why I can't log on through my adsl network at my office to the java TWS ? I can log on at home through a 56k modem but not at my office where I trade. It get to the screen and then freezes my computer up.I am thinking maybe it might be
because of the firewall on the router. It has an IP address translator in it ,which according to your web page will not work . Anyway I've been trying now for a week to get it to work. Your customer support is absolutely worthless. I can't get anyone on the phone! And noone answers the dang chat room. All I can get are general comments through email. This is ridiculous. If your management is so concerned why don't they hire some help. Especially if you have thousands of customers. I have brought my isp administrator over today to help me figure this thing out but he's baffled as well. You guys need to get off of the BS and get on the ball. You have the right idea but can't seem to implement it. Why?

    kurtiscat,
your problem is definately related to the filewall. It is something that I know is being worked on. Until it is resolved (which should be very soon), you should be able to use the older TWS version. If interested in using the older version, either send me an e-mail or contact the help desk for the firewall instructions and info on where to download the TWS. Regarding the help desk I'm a bit surprised to hear your comments. What time were you trying to contact them? When operations shift over to Hong Kong (after 8PM NY time) things are usually a bit quieter and thus the help personnel should be able to give you a bit more time to work with you. Thus try calling or trying to chat at that time if your questions are not urgent. I was also told this morning that there was a problem with the chat space where people were told that all operators were busy when they weren't. The chat space is external software and I don't know much about it other than it seems to be ok now.

I've been using the new Java TWS successfully for a while now through a `firewall' with Net Address Translation (NAT)
    on. No problems, works great.

Your problem may be that your router doesn't supporting NAT well. Or it could be that you've got some security features turned on that the TWS doesn't like.

You might try turning all security features off.

    Good luck
