IB's day / night margin for emini

Discussion in 'Interactive Brokers' started by FutureMann, Mar 7, 2012.

  1. (1) For E mini S&P , does IB calculate the number of contracts, which can carry over to night session, based on Overnight Initial or Overnight Maintenance magin?
    (2) What time near close will IB reduce the number of contracts to the amount, which can carry over to night session?

Interesting. I always thought the exchange would charge the FCMs initial margin once the night session started because that would be outside of day trading. not doubting your answer, but are you sure?

  4. If you initiate a position after-hour, overnight initial margin is used.

If you carry over a position into after-hour, overnight maintenance margin is used.

  5. That's what I always understood.

  6. So at 4pm EST for ES contract?

Thank you very much for the explanation. I always had enough in my account in case I carried over night and try to close all positions by 5PM depending on the contract. This is good info.

Yes, 4pm EST for ES contract.

  9. My current broker reduces my position between 4:11~4:13pm EST for ES contract. Can your firm do it a little later too?

I doubt we will do something like that.
