IB's Buy Stops Don't Work on NYSE Stocks?

Discussion in 'Order Execution' started by version77, Nov 7, 2003.

  1. I've had a GTC buy stop in since yesterday for POT at 78.92 that
didn't trigger awhile ago. POT is now at 79.25. Wassup with
this? So much for covering your shorts with IB...

  2. Oh great. Now it triggers at 79.30... I guess you cannot
trust IB with buy stops. They are no good for swing trading...

You can set your trigger method.
Perhaps something is set wrong there.

    Never had problems with IB

  4. I have never had a problem with IB for over 2 years untill now.
Then again, I usually don't use buy or sell stops. Nothing wrong
with the trigger method. This should of triggered at about 10:10
pacific time. It triggered at 11:13. Only about an hour delay...

  5. Reminds me of when I used to be with Datek... :(

  6. I would check em out....ask them why....looks like you should have been filled lower

  7. I will be checking them out alright... :D

No problems with Buy stops ever. Have had bad fills with Sell stops, but that is usually because of the "uptick" rule not allowing me to get filled optimally.

  9. Here's the magical answer from IB:

    Dear Trader,

At the time of the stop order in question, IB experienced a technical issue which resulted in market data problems. As a result of these market data problems, it appears that your account may have had a working stop order that did not trigger properly. We do apologize for any inconvenience resulting from this issue. Although uncommon, when utilizing a fully electronic system, such technical issues are, of course, possible. Please be aware that the source of the problem has been addressed by IB.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us again.

    Regards,

    Ben

IB should make it right if it was their problem. Of course, they could cite their customer agreement but IMHO if they dont make this right then I would not consider any type of trading activity with them.

DEF, how about explaining this one ? Sticking it to your customers without any type of acceptalbe explanation is unacceptable.

This response is a non-explanation and is insulting.
