For convenience, here is a link to futures margins at IB: http://individuals.interactivebroke...ginRequirements/margin_amer.php?ib_entity=llc As of today, I haven't noted any significant intraday changes, but we can check it every day and send positive thoughts for lower margins.
Why is it the same? Is it a print mistake? I found many mistakes in the table. It is not coincidence.
It's no mistake. There is no intraday margin advantage for many key equities-related futures, and others perhaps not so obviously related to equities, such as ags, etc. IB is protecting us intraday traders, of course. Many of us are hoping the "rumor" is true that IB will finally relent and drop intraday back down again to reasonable levels.
The european markets are quiet at the moment so i havent been filled on any trades yet today, but TWS - check margin is showing half the overnight margin requirements for atleast one european stock index futures market. Will know for sure if i get filled today, but intra day margin looks like it might be back to 50%!
The intraday margin for ER2 is down to 50%, however, YM is still 100%, which makes for the odd situation of ER2 contract margin being substantially less than YM...also, no change in energy futures...
ES is also down to 50%. I think YM will be back down soon. It's probably taking time to update everything.
CBOT still has same margins on it's homepage so I doubt IB will change YM... European markets and NQ is back to normal although that one only increased by about 30% instead of 100% like ES
ya I find this sort of funny ... why spike the margin rates about 100% and then spike them back down? its not like we wont have volatility ever again ... if they are worried about margin calls with their customers then increase it by a little not by 100% and definately dont knock it back down?
IB still hasn't completely remove the special margin due the previous volatility states. People may try to vote this while waiting for IB to take it all back to the previous states. Based on history, it should be still quick a hile before we can get back to previous margin requirements. Good luck! Ticket 3185 ===================== Title: Pls bring intraday margin back to normal Submitted by: master In Margin Overview: "IB calculates initial & maintenance margin requirements on a real-time basis... IB will liquidate positions on a real-time basis if there is a margin deficiency. Real-time margining allows you to see your trading risk at any moment of the day..." In other words, IB issues no margin call & will liquidates your positions if you have any margin deficiency. But it retains the most conservative margin policy in the world. IB is holding 4% Req. Policy, making intraday initial & maintenance margin of many instruments up to the same level of overnight initial & maintenance margin. (Read http://individuals.interactivebroke...ginRequirements/margin_amer.php?ib_entity=llc ) We can't have any margin deficiency, why do we need to keep such a high intraday margin? It is crazy & stupid. Pls bring it back to at least 50% intraday margin. All futures traders, pls vote it up all the way to the top!
