IBKR opens @ 50 or so.

  1. IBKR has inherent value.

It does not warrant a market cap that's more than the CBOE, however. In fact, I'm not sure anyone here can claim with a straight face that is warrants a market cap 1/4 of the market cap of the CBOE.

What does that portend for the share valuation?

Also, this is operating in a crowded space going after the retail trader. It will thrive when retail trader activity is high, and wane badly when volatility shakes retail traders out.

TD Ameritrade has suffered lower revenues because retail trading volume is down.

I understand that IBKR offers more in terms of forex and international access, and if that's IBKRs competitive advantage, they'll have to build it way up to create a moat, and so differentiate themselves from Scottrade, TD Ameritrade, etc.

Just my opinion. I bear no ill will towards IBKR.

  3. True.

This fact alone almost makes me want to cheer IBKR on.

  4. If wall st manipulates this far enough down, I'm going to buy. You can only kill stocks that are small companies and have weak fundamentals.

Granted IBKR may be overvalued right now, but the company does have strong fundamentals and is in no way a small company.

  5. Your uninformed.

IB only derives 17% of revenues from the brokerage biz.

  6. I never set a percentage on what percentage was derived, but okay, I accept 17% if that's what you claim.

In any event, that's nearly 1/5 of their revenue.

Where is their other revenue gleaned from, and how would a slowdown in retail trading not adversely impact it?

  7. Well, you know, I used to think that way. But be prepared to hang on a long time. They can, and then they catch a mistake. That's when you die. I point to TASR. Good product, profitable. They never let it up. I am very surprised, and I shouldn't be, that they did this to IBKR.

I asked Patrick Byrne one time, "what did you do? why you?" He said it was the Dutch auction - that he received a call shortly after that he would be destroyed. I wonder if Peterffy was threatened as such. We could use a powerful ally in this mess. Somebody has to stop the thuggery.

  8. has been a sinking ship since it's initial day of trading? There have been many opportunites for bounces, but will this bottom out?

The auction "gives everybody an equal chance to participate," Peterffy said, adding that several Wall Street firms approached him and asked him not to go that route.
