Seeing how I've been trading full time for 11+ years I know you can't short an IPO. But I'd recommend that you look at today's chart before making uninformed comments. Between 10:15 and 11:30 it moved up over $1. And a stock trading just under 5 million shares offers some great trading opportunities.
Vonage opened on 5/24/06. I was able to short on 6/1/06 . See attached image. It was funny reading about these people bitching about how they couldn't short or how it was "impossible" . Impossible? Yes only if you don't try. I was with Scottrade at the time, but paying $7 and being able to short VG @ 12.00 was well worth it. So just because your broker doesn't have shares available to short, doesn't mean it can't be done. . Sheesh.
I covered hedge funds on an Institutional desk, trust me I am familiar about "shorting" IPO's on the day of issue. I know this clown that alluded to calling his broker has no clue how this is done. good trading! el surdo
That was a week after the IPO opened though. Maybe I was wrong on the time span. But I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to short an IPO the first day. I'm surprised you're allowed to short it after a week.
this has to be an ET classic ...... please fill in. "When I think of the IB ipo, it seems too much like vonage. " it is incredible what people will post on ET.
