IB's volume on charts don't update correctly until I use the refresh feature, anyone know how to fix it? I emailed them but I don't think I got a response back.
That behavior is by design. I submitted a problem ticket back in October on this same issue. After they had me upgrade java and several other fruitless things they came back with this: Dear Trader, Unfortunately this is a limitation of the TWS. When the chart builds with live data from the TWS, the volume is approximated from snapshots we take of the market every 1/3 of a second. When you refresh the chart, the data is reloaded from the historical market data servers, and this data is more accurate, hence the increase in volume that you are seeing.
