yes, exactly this is the way I have logged in for last 3 yrs. It didn't install anything on my system. That is what I meant.

    The memory is now 445MB.

then this could be the cause-

i would suggest you to try standalone, and see, if there is any difference. instructions are simple :

also-open task manager, go to processes ,then minimize TWS and see,if there is any difference in mem.usage

  6. I thought IB had a recommended release of Java to use for each TWS version and that new versions of Java could actually cause problems if they had not tested with that version.
Is anyone running TWS on Java 7 ?

I never had this problem of TWS using excessive memory before. Other people who replied on this thread have confirmed this. I am using around 20 tickers and 1 chart, 1 T&S and 1 Market depth trader - I guess this is not overloading the TWS.

Also, I have seen memory usage by TWS increases with time. So, when I close and re-start TWS, memory usage is low but then it increases as hours go by.

Something is most likely wrong - some kind of memory leak or something else. My Java and TWS are uptodate.

This is what help -> About Trader Workstation on TWS says

when did you notice this ? on build 933 or before,on previous builds?

right now i have one 5 min chart open and TWS(javaw.exe) was consuming about 350 mb. i've minimized this chart and mem.usage drops to 13mb
