IB TWS security token asked after disconnection

Hello Tom (fullautotrading), and everyone else. After about a year, capital has increased, and I feel I now need to use again the mentioned "IB security code card authentication", from which I had opted out.

Can anyone inform me if those problems have disappeared in the meanwhile?

Has the security code card authentication become efficient for automated traders, too, or does it keep on disrupting our automation attempts by logging us out several times per month?

As you might remember, the problem was that I got disconnected, got asked for the codes again, but since obviously I wasn't there to see that request, my systems stopped received the DDE Excel feed, given that they couldn't enter the codes themselves.

So, any news about this problem? Tom and the others, does the "IB security code card authentication" still disconnect you?

  2. Hi travis,

No sign of the problem here up to this time.

It seems the issue has been successfully solved by IB.

(If it should reappear, I would let you know.)

Thank you very much. I will re-enable it then.

    ...

There, done. I double-checked with TWS and it became immediately active. I am very satisfied with how everything has been solved and is now working.

  4. Some problem detected.

Today (it's Saturday), for the first time after long time of no connection problems, my application has been disconnected and it is not able to automatically reconnect due to some IB blockage and prompt.

In addition, any login attempt (both the automatic attempt done by the Gateway and manual attempts done by me) gives an unexpected message that my password or user name are wrong (???).

At the same time, I can normally access the IB account management (on IB website) with the same password and username.

(Also, connecting to demo account (edemo/demouser) works normally.)

This seems a new sort of problem. It's the first time I see this. I hope it's something temporary. (if it's a sort of system outage, the fact that it returns wrong-credentials message should be corrected, and it should not prevent future automatic relogin attempts)

Experiencing anything like that out there ?

I am sorry to hear about that. I haven't had any problems for the last 30 days, since re-enabling it.

Just now (early on a Saturday morning, 10:30 AM CET) I just tried logging in and I've had the same exact error as you, except on the regular TWS session (rather than the IB Gateway application).

It might be because it's the weekend. Let's see if it gets solved on Monday.

  6. I get that it is possibly due to some system maintenance.

However, it is still wrong (a <b>bug</b>), and possibly alarming to the user, that the bad-credentials error is (<b>incorrectly</b>) reported.

This means the coder is doing some "wrong inference" about the cause of an exception in accessing the user data, instead of having the correct exception info bubble up to the initial call.
Also the relogin attempts <b>should NOT be blocked</b> (just skip then in case).

This should be fixed. Leaving the bug there would look pretty unprofessional. And I don't think a top institution like IB might like that.

  7. I still cant log on. Whats going on? It says username or password is wrong?

  8. Now it's back to work. Logging fine.

(Please IB correct anyway the bug for the future.)

  9. Argh!

We are back again to the original problem.

Today I got prompted and disconnected again, instead of having the automatic relogin attempts go on.

Well what to say? I better shut up, I think you already know what I'd have to say...

Thanks for warning us, but let's not cry wolf on a Saturday. We already got lucky enough that the problem has been fixed for about a year during the weekdays. If we keep alarming IB staff during the weekend, when the real problem happens during the weekdays, they won't even bother to read this thread.
