I've been using the web based TWS for 3 years, and lately it takes about 5 minutes to login AFTER I get the login window. It NEVER was that long, usually 1-2 minutes max with DSL. Anyone else having the same problem? Can someone from IB respond as to why it's taking that long?
I agree it is very slow and leaves incomplete screen areas till it fully loads. If I get a disconnect it used to hook right up but now usually freezes and needs a restart.
How many symbols do you have? Back when market data was available on port 4001, my TWS with 12 tabbed pages, each with a good number of symbols, would take over a minute to login. Now that market data is only available on port 4000, which my firewall blocks, it only takes around 15 seconds for TWS to start up. But I digress... point is, if you have lots of symbols it can take awhile to start up.
I have 3 tabbed pages and 4 tabbed option trader pages with a total of at least 100 symbols. I also open at startup few book trader pages, charts, execution pages etc. etc. It takes 5-10 sec to start from login page. I didn't notice any slowdown recently.
As TWS has gotten more and more features over the past year, the amount of code that needs to be downloaded has ballooned. 854.7 needs the following 11/28/2003 11:53a 258,044 jcommon-0.9.0.jar 11/28/2003 11:53a 568,692 jfreechart-0.9.15.jar 09/22/2005 02:28p 593,578 jhall.jar 12/09/2005 04:52p 5,852,785 jts.jar 11/07/2005 09:24a 282,826 other.jar You really need to run the locally installed version, especially if your connection is less than wonderful. Login takes seconds with locally installed TWS
I notice that TWS sometimes hangs after I enter login, password and press Ok. I just close the window, restart TWS and usually the 2nd time, it loads right up. I did re-install the latest version just to make sure but it didn't help. I only have 1 page and 10 stocks.
FIVE MINUTES??? Bro, I think you got a computer/ISP problem. I just tested here. Took 13 seconds using the web based TWS.
