I always "saw" this through the volume profile / volume by price. It was only recently pointed out to me that VWAP was the acronym, and this is an actual line I could see on the chart itself.
You're making a statement, the burden of proof is on your side. But I would argue that most institutional order flow is benchmarked against VWAP. There are lots of ways you can use this to your advantage. One simple example is that price tends to drift towards VWAP in the final minutes of trading. You can observe this for yourself, especially in stock where the number of institutional traders is limited.
