The reality of the situation gentlemen is that data feeds (and other systems) go down and as an active trader you have be prepared for it. I prepare by integrating DTN and TWS. I have never seen a situation where they are both down at the same time. (I also have cable backup by DSL.) If I need to execute a trading during tws's down period (which has never happen to me yet but could) I would have to call in the execution and IB would not charge extra in that situation. To be effective you have to do what you have to do to get the job done.
no i dont. ib are not the only ones to get my rag. ameritrade win that hands down. global futures also wind me up with their '12 languages, 456 platforms' shit too - esp @ $8rt!!!! no i dont work for refco, just a happy customer with no problems - i just dont understand why folk keep using ib after all the shit they dish out. what really gets me laughing is how all these trading experts are so willing to tell everyone how to trade on these boards, yet they cant even select a good, RELIABLE broker. this MUST be one of the first steps right? call me old fashioned, but selecting the right business partners is vital when in a professional business. maybe ib customers just think this is all a game? i can understand the pain that must be caused by losing money, especially through somebody elses neglect. that is my only motivation for recommending refco - so people dont have to suffer (im a nice guy really ) they are the only futures broker i have ever used. i have no reason to change. i trade 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, 40 odd weeks of the year, and have never jhad an issue. having said that, i am sure there are other good brokers out there too - you dont hear too many complaints from velocity or advanced either do you?
Geez, respond to a funny post with a funny response and get lectured for it... I've done my research to the extent that I need and I find IB is the best for me. It appears that lots of other people like IB's offering just fine as well. If you're not cool (or anyone else) with what they have, why don't you take your business somewhere that your research tells you is better?
i thought there was only one moderator per thread. i thought moderators were suppose to add knowledge to threads not commisserate with traders who don't seem to understand that systems go down and than make idle threads to transfer their accounts.
Is Ib senior management following up on this? It would be very comforting to hear something from upstairs. Not really buttermilk. Every system of course is subject to failure. In this case, things are a bit different. Flawed design compounds risk exponentially. In fact the backfill/charting feature running on the same servers as their brokerage essentials is disastrous. Exactly at a time of trouble, a sharp increase of demand is to be expected from all backfill users trying to get back up to date. Such a runaway surplus-load situation is exactly what you must at all cost avoid at a time of crisis. Backfill & Charting SHOULD GO ONTO SEPARATE SERVERS WITH SEPERATE COMMUNICATION CHANNELS. Having followed all the thread hype of the past year, I have the sneaking suspicion the whole thing was simply brought in to please the button-pusher-addon vendors to enable them to peddle their thingies. This has nothing to do with reliable brokerage. From past experience we know that Ib can make things work right. Put all that pixie dust on separate servers and let the aficionado's pay for their extras. NO MORE FREE RIDE ON TRADER's SERVERS. GIVE US BACK YOUR ROCK-STABLE TWS.
Time 12:22 EST ---- System Status ---- At 10:39 EST IB's Primary internet provider expereinced a technical issue causing service outages which affected market data and TWS login issues. Another event occured at 12:04. IB has switched to a backup provider and all systems should be operating normally.
"The market data is restored. We had to disable the charting data for the rest of the day. Sorry for the inconvenience. " Looks like Scanners are DOA as well.
