Ib Tws Down

Discussion in 'Interactive Brokers' started by laocoon, Aug 3, 2005.

  1. I am happy to report that the HK server is up :)

But I have an interesting experiment for the IB software guys.

Running windows xp. Running TWS 848.8 standalone 2005/07/01 10:00 Java 1.5.0_04

Open windows task manager. watch the memory usage of javaw.exe. Minimize TWS so the memory usage shrinks.

Open 3 applications that use TWS in a row. ( I used Bracket trader, Sierrachart and NinjaTrader and made no requests for backfill).

Memory use for me rises from 6 Megabytes to 160 Megabytes. Restoring and minimizing TWS causes it to drop back to 8 but then it regrows to 161,220K ....

This doesnt seem right so I am going back to 837 once HSI closes to see if it still happens.

My contracts are HSI, SGXNK and SGXTW .. thats all.

  2. 843.7 rises to 20MB when the experiment takes place. Restore and minimize drops it back down and then it comes back to about 12MB. HSI is not running at present but I will report if that makes much difference to it.

    Much better.

Instructions further up the thread - go into jts directory, delete settings file and rename last known good settings eg settings.thurs to settings. Be sure that this is your problem fist.

TWS has a habit of wiping out your settings when it crashes on the server side, or maybe we are just using the same ISP and that is the problem.

  4. nononsense-----------the xtrader platform has never given me any issues like this, and if you do a certain amount of size monthly you can have the platform free {if interested, pm me and I will tell you who can give you a great deal}. the 500 dollar fee with xtrader IS negotiable-------------these kind of platform problems IB is having would cost me more then a 500 monthly fee anyway.

  5. Amazing. I signed on this PM and TWS has wiped out my settings, deleted some of my trading permissions. Fortunately one of the restore settings brought my pages back up. Wild.

  8. I'm on LINUX.
X-Trader doesn't run on it. Do you know anyone running it of VMware?

  9. It's that Java hog. Ib didn't know any better and they are kind of slo learners. (They are not the only ones stuck with it.)
