Yes, I launched TWS via the desktop Icon. Will try a fresh install later, currently the browser version works fine.

    Have a look at: http://www.interactivebrokers.com/discus/messages/3/20899.html?1079404635

  3. The TWS install program is pointing TWS to the IE default JRE. You can edit that and use your own string "C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.1_03\bin\javaw.exe" which would point TWS back to that JRE instead.

I would also recommend upgrading the Java to 1.4.2 or higher because there is security stuff added in that version which TWS may use.

Most likely the IE default JRE IS your most recent JRE anyway, if you installed the IE plug-in. I'm just mentioning this because you don't have to install the browser plug-in, in which case the IE default JRE IS NOT your most recent Java version installed.

  4. I downloaded the standalone version abt an hour ago and it has the correct startup string- its has the -cp in it (not just cp),

My destkop icons and Start menu items have the same startup strings. I see this on both Win2000 and Win2003 servers. Maybe that's because I rebooted them after upgrading to TWS 819?

    Maybe he needs to reboot?

I was wrong. I overlooked the missing "-" in the start menu string. I didn't want to test the strings since TWS was already running.

I had exactly the same problem after upgrading to TWS 819.
Both will start, TWS-browser will login, but TWS standalone will not login.
A solution that works is to uninstall old JavaRE and install the new j2re-1_4_2_04 .
