IB Trailing Stops

You have to mention both a stop price as well as "trailing by" price. That order only trails if the price goes up (for a sell "trailing stop" order). If the price only goes down after you entered the order, the trailing never triggers. In that case, the "stop" price will be hit if the price keeps going down. On the other hand, if the price goes up a little and causing the system to start trailing, then the trailing-stop will remain effective even if the price goes down afterwards.

You might take a look at the 3rd party API-programs for IB...some of them have this feature. (ButtonTrader for instance has it, and it's even possible to use up to 5 different trailing-steps and triggers for the same trailing Order...for example: first a trigger on 5 ticks profit with a trail of 7 ticks, followed by a trigger on 10 ticks with a trail of 4 ticks....Just an idea..)
