Open the monthly report via your browser. Go to File, and then Save As, typing the name you'd like and change the Save As Type to "text" from "HTML" (default normally). Then when you are in TradeLog, and hit the Import button, find the directory where you saved this text file, select the file and click ok. It will ask if you want to import that day, and say yes. Thats it. The import function remembers the directory you used last when finding the text file, so you won't have to find the directory each time. When you get this process down it takes about 5 seconds a day.
Just wanted to let everyone know that Igor (Isidoren) has done a tremendous job developing the macros to import and match IB trade data from the monthly reports in Excel. It does exactly what I was looking for when I first started this thread. For those that missed it the first time here's the link http://www.ingenit.com/iblog/ Thanks Igor. Your post telling us about this is the single most useful post for me that I have seen on this board. Now, is anyone interested in a slightly used version of Quicken 2002
I didn't want to start a new thread but I think this fits right in. Shouldn't commission go into the Cost or other basis? Why does the IB 1099 put the commission into the Sales Price and throwing my numbers ALL off? Example for 1 month with 2 trades. It looks like they added commissions for the 2500 shares to the Sales Price. Isn't the 1099 wrong? Why?
I used TradePair ver. 0.3 beta from www.ingenit.com. It worked great. The trick for me was following the directions precisely. Once I did, the thing was great. For reference, I also have used TradeLog and really like it, too. But there's a substantial cost difference between the two programs, so if all you're looking for is a way to generate your Schedule D, I'd go with TradePair.
I used TradePair and I think it worked great but I still can't figure out why my 1099 doesn't match my Sales from TradePair. By looking over the trades, I figured IB adds Commission to the Sales instead of the Cost Basis. Does everybody's IB 1099 trades match their Tradelog? Shouldn't the Commissions get added to the Cost Basis? I was using ver. 2. I'll try it again with ver. 3.
IB's 1099 does not include commissions when reporting the "Gross Proceeds" from trades. All of my other broker's include the cost of commissions, ie., commissions are deducted from the proceeds. I feel that IB's version is wrong because there is no way for the IRS to know how much we paid for commissions on each transaction. What we report for total sales for 2001 will not match what IB is reporting to the IRS. Makes no sense to me.
Tradelog says it now handles wash sales (I didn't elect MTM for this year), does this work well? Thanks, Johnny
