Currently, IB order servers only permit conditions to trigger LIMIT or MKT orders.

Please allow TRAIL orders to have conditions.

The standard response is "just use the API". The problem with using the API is that if you become disconnected from the IB servers because of a network issue, then you are out of luck. It also means that you have to up the ante to having a machine always connected.

It has also been argued that this would increase volatility. Well, so?

why does TOPX realtime data sometimes come in only a few minutes after market open ?

I am at the same time monitoring SGXNK and NK225 real time and they do not have this problem.

    thanks

    xiaohu,

Here is a very good answer of Michael Shapiro on your question from
    http://www.interactivebrokers.com/discus/messages/216/35082.html?1147094486

Topix and Nikkei futures often open at 09:01 (Tokyo time) or later. This happens when there are more buy/sell orders than sell/buy orders at 09:00. The exchange then marks up/down the price each minute until the orders match. So you then have an opening gap on the chart. Opening right at 09:00 is the exception.

IDEALPRO. The quoting convention is the interbank convention, e.g. USD/EUR.
The denominator is the instrument you are trading (e.g. EUR) and the numerator currency is the way you are paying/getting paid for the transaction (here, USD).

This is EXACTLY like for stocks, although few people map the models together. When you buy MSFT, you are buying 100 shares of MSFT for 26 USD/share. The asset you are trading is in the denominator (shares); the payment form is the numerator (USD). If you treat FX just like stocks, you never get confused about which currency one is buying or selling. You bid in the IDEALPRO market when you wish to buy the denominator (hence give out, or "sell", the numerator). You enter sell orders when you wish to sell the denominator currency and take in, or "buy" the numerator currency).

On the TWS, you first enter the asset you wish to trade (ex; MSFT or EUR, or any other 'denominator') and then select the payment form (USD, EUR for Microsoft, or whatever you wish for the FX example).

It is easy to trade an exact number of USD in pairs such as CHF, HKD, CAD, etc where USD is in the denominator. It is harder to get an exact USD trade for GBP and EUR as USD id not the denominator currency. But one can trade an exact amount of EUR, for example, 80000 EUR, which is a touch over 100K USD.

  6. I was told by CS that "opening" a floor traded spoo position by
phone will be possible soon, just no ETA available yet.
Does anybody know – Steve ?- when direct floor access by phone will be available ?
I would like to hedge my emini positions in case globex and/or IB goes down, due to technical, or other issues .

I need the ability to place a stop order that will be activated automatically relative to a fill price.

In theory, for SPX only, you can do it now. But our trade desk staff is not experienced with floor executions and will not likely call the order down. Instead we will use our internal TWs systems to route a trade for the client's benefit.

  9. So I will be able to OPEN not just close a SPX order by calling IB?
Wouldn't need a back up broker anymore!

  10. I recently noticed two IMO unnecessary limitations which prevent me from using orders the way I want to:

    1. Only MKT and LMT orders can be used for conditional orders. I'd like to use conditional stop orders, though!

    2. One can only attach orders which have the same size as the parent orders. I'd like to be able to modify the size of the attached order to another value.

If I have made mistakes or if there are already workarounds - please let me know!
