This same problem has recurred with the 858 release. The Unix download marked as 858, isn't. It is 857. And now the 857 release will not startup on Linux. Again , the only way to get started is to use the java web start - this time for 858. Please keep the Unix releases in step with the Windows releases, or alternatively not break the the prior release.
The first time you use help, it downloads the file from the server, which can take a while. Personally, I'd prefer it to be made an optional part of the distribution, or be given the alternative to download it during installation instead of first use.
Not certain that this was brought up in this thread... It would be very nice if Webtrader allowed Stop Limit orders with respect to FOREX trading. Currently, it only supports order creation with Limit, Market and Stop. Though curiously, if you created a stop limit order for FOREX in TWS, WebTrader allows you to modify it.
A suggestion to improve Webtrader that I look at it as a bug. The problem is: After the option expiry day for each month, you still see that month in the month's list when you want to put an order for next month's option. Like on 26 of April if you want to trade a May option , April is still in the list of the selected month that causes some confusion. It is only removed from the option list after the month is over.
It sure would be nice if check margin showed the incremental amount of increase in margin due to this order. I know, it sounds lazy, but then laziness is the source of mankinds progress (and why we are tool builders...).
Works fine on Linux with Firefox behind a firewall for me. Perhaps you also have a proxy firewall, not just a NAT firewall.
don't know, if it been mentioned. but i really like to see ability to place your own margin restrictions on account(i don't need crazy x4 intraday margin with many open orders while we have disconnection between me and IB on their side) or dedicated phone line(number) for extra money. i keep about 20-50 open orders during the day and once i lost connection-there is no way to cancel all those orders, been on hold for like 20 minutes to cancel them-nothing. unable to login. it would be good to have some margin restriction for extra protection(customer and IB) in such case.
Suggestion : can IB create symbols to represent equity curve and other values from the accounts page. It would be nice to be able to chart some of these things, both daily and intraday if possilbe. The values could be read at user defined intervals and cached locally.. It would also be useful if these figures could be applied to a user spceified formula to calculate position sizes.. e.g. size =(3% of available funds / stock price) or whatever.
