IB Suggestions & Improvements

  1. IB SMART spread/combo routing doesn't work on the installed nor the beta TWS app. Have tried repeatedly on Solaris, OSX, WinXP; as well as different IPs. What's going on Def?

ticker > comb > SMART > [fly, conversion, etc...] = nada.

    Hasn't worked for days.

  2. At 3:50pm, IB liquidates positions in any account whose SMA is less than zero until the SMA comes back above zero. This algorithm should take into account MOC (Market on Close) orders. In other words, positions for which MOC orders have been placed, should be factored into the SMA before deciding to force-liquidate positions. MOC orders cannot be cancelled after 3:50pm, so once placed, IB is guaranteed that those positions will be liquidated and can and should therefore factor them into the SMA calculation at 3:50pm

    Does IB have PUT/CALL Ratio?

If so, what symbol would you enter into TWS?

I want to see put/call ratios in real time.

Perhaps that was written badly. If I am working from a screener that outputs a list of OTCBB issues to Excel and I had a list of OTCBB issues that IB does not handle then I could delete the IB list from the screener list. Currently I have to enter each issue into TWS to see if it gets rejected. Some OTCBB issues can be traded and some cannot.

I have emailed/talked to support of course, to try to find out what the criteria might be to no avail (of course).

Maybe you could try using the API to bring up a ticker for each symbol that you are interested in. If you get an error on starting the ticker, then you know that symbol isn't tradable via the TWS. Then you can eliminate it from your list. You could automate this.

I would like to have IB implement/fix a few enhancements:

***1) In the sub-menu of the stock quantity section of the TWS' grid and Alerts, where the popped sub menu shows numbers like 100,200,300, etc. (which supposedly helps the users to fill out stocks' quantity quickly), I want IB to add something like "position" which will automatically set the number of shares the user is currently holding.

***2) IB's Alerts to send/cancel a stock order needs quite a bit of improvements. For example,
*i)If you use a conditional stock order (to be triggered in the future) using Alerts, it will show up with the exact same status-color (the same color as "order placed") and configuration in TWS for both "saved" and "activated". Having the exact same color/configuration for an Alerts' order (to be triggered in the future) for both "saved" and activated" is confusing and misleading at times. IB needs to change the color-coding to help distinguish between "saved" and "activated".
*ii) The users should be able to "deactivate" and "transmit" (if they later decide to) an order in TWS placed via Alerts---just like they are able to do for an order placed from TWS' grids.
*iii) The users should be able to re-use/activate their "saved" Alerts' orders more than once.

***3) I want IB to add an option to have "trailing stop-limit" order. A few other competitors already have it. Currently IB only offers trailing stop (market) order---but not "trailing stop-limit" order i.e., when the stop activation price hits, the resulting order becomes a limit order at/around the stop activation price. (If it helps them to implement faster, IB can restrict the limit price just 2 decimal points if they like.) It will be up to the users to choose between "trailing stop-market" and "trailing stop-limit" orders.

This could be a problem with the screener I was using. I was getting a list of what I thought were OTCBB but apparently they were a mixture of everything that fell off the exchanges, not real sure what is going on. I can use the list of everything traded via ARCA Edge at their site, and it is in Excel format already.

  9. Is anybody else having trouble with the getting the TWS to come up tonight? When I click on "TWS" from the pull down menu I get an error message. I then clicked on "load as an applet" and it took two tries to get that to work.
I am just curious as to whether it is my computer of a problem with IB?

I'd like to get trouble ticket updates (or at least notification that there is one) sent to me by email. It's impossible to stay logged into AMS for more than a few minutes without timing out, and a pain to have to keep logging in to look for updates. This is a common feature in other TT systems I've used.
