For the last 4 weeks or so (maybe more) I've been noticing a DELAY (sometimes very high 5-15sec) to confirm order ENTRY or CANCELLATION. Not everytime, but often enough for me to notice. E.g. today I tried to cancel a resting limit order in Eurex and the order status remained uncofirmed for a very long time, seemed like forever. It took so long to complete the cancel, that I brought up TWS screen to check and indeed it was pink. A few seconds later it turned red (cancelled successfully). In the past, this process was instantaneous. Market data quotes were updating fine during that time (I know that data and orders go to different servers). I've noticed it in several markets: CME, CBOT and Eurex I'm using latest TWS and Java. PS: I remember some other trader raising this issue a few days ago.
huh...I thought that kind of delay was common...i.e. normal. I trade options on DIA and QQQQ, and I -commonly- experience 5-20 second delays on DIA. It does indeed seem 'forever'. Q's are almost always instant....but DIA is almost always slow.
that isn't going to happen as there is no way for IB to predict what will happen to a stock in the last seconds of trading on expiration. If you don't want any of the underlying shares, simply go through your portfolio and lapse the options. asking for a firm to close out your option position will cost you a great deal of money (ie. if you have a deep in the money call, the liquidity will be horrendous minutes before the close.) you either need to do this yourself.
uhmm....that's what I'm talking about. add a -global- setting to that window, so that a single click does them all at once; rather than requiring the tedious line-by-line...
I've found the demo account to be pretty uselss for testing or trading simulations because the trade flow is not realistic, B/A isn't too bad, but the actual trades are few and far between, nothing like realtime.
As a former option market maker it would be nice to have a better way to analyze my option positions. For example: * The profit/loss of my position for a certain price range for example the actual value of the stock is 50 then I want to have the possibility to see the profit/loss and the greeks with a price of the underlying at 52.50, 55, 57,50, 47,50, 45, 42,50. And you can dertermine by yourself the interval and the range . % price change is for me of no use * The possibility to make the implied volatility higher or lower and see the effects on my profit/loss and the greeks for the same range as stated above. * Change the number of days til expiration to see the effects on my profit/loss and the greeks for the same price range as stated above. Sorry for my bad english but I am from the Netherlands lol! Maurice
i use rapid order entry to place stock orders. once i click buy the order appears on my spreadsheet (order management) then it dissapears after 30 seconds. i went to the configure menu and under the order submenu i deselected "auto-remove orders" that way my positions will stay on the spreadsheet and avoid having to re-enter them again. except that by doing this it also keeps creating rows of when i buy, sell, or cancel and it won't let me delete those. is there any way to configure it so just the ticker rows are present and hide the rest? thanks. -jj
Two new ideas: 1] Please put the name of the security on the chart somewhere (along with the ticker) 2] Give us the ability to combine the parameters used in the mkt scanner filters. For example, I'd like to see 'hot volume' AND 'top trade count' as a combined filter (this would avoid a single big block causing a stock to come up on hot volume - and it might also filter out merger pops). And thanks guys for putting the time in to read ET and give us this interaction. Its much appreciated.
