Has anyone else noticed slowness with IB Webtrader over the past couple of days? Specifically, my options chains don't fill out completely and sometimes the web app just locks up when switching products or other dialogs just won't respond. Really annoying... I tried TWS, but even that takes a long time to load as in minutes to log in and init the app.
I don't do webtrader, but I'm pretty annoyed that halfway through the day I have to restart TWS a few times because it's lack of speed is unbearable...
I mentioned some issue I was seeing in the first and last seconds of the day, but its quite rare for there to be any speed issue during the day. And I have plenty of data and charts on display, plus , two other significant platforms running AT THE SAME TIME, all on a 5 year old Intel I-5 rig. So if you're restarting all the time, you have some other issue at work, not a native TWS problem. PS Im using TWS for well over a decade, so I know a bit about it.
Any tips? I've got a i7 3370k @ 3.50ghz with 16gb. 6 screens... Usually have about 10 webpages open as well as excel with macro's running and about 10 charts and multiple quotes and deep order book...
There are ways to allocate extra memory and graphics resources when you start up TWS, some command line arguments I forget. It may help if you're running into resource issues.
I had the same problem. Changed this number and it went smoothly after that.Check Vikana's post. Perhaps outdated but you get the idea where to look: https://www.elitetrader.com/et/thre...nresponsive-is-it-normal.277652/#post-3862291
TWS is Java-based. There's a way to allocate more heap memory to it. Try this: https://ibkb.interactivebrokers.com/article/2170 I don't use TWS, but if I did, I'd give it half the memory in my system. The problem that I described above is something completely different. Last week, the web apps were working fine. This week, there's been slowness in retrieving data. I'm on a 40 Mbps connection and all other services that I use work fine. Webtrader was un-usable today as well. Really hope IB fixes this issue soon as it's costing me money.
Webtrader is back to working as normal. However, I still have a strange issue where other option chains show up under my indicated option chain. I posted about this in another thread. Really hope IB gets around to fixing it. Other than that technical issue, I've been happy with IB. By the way, shorting that May 14 VIX put for 0.70 and then covering yesterday at 0.55 was as close to a risk-free trade as one can get. Certainly not a huge profit, I'm not claiming that. But when VIX is around 11, shorting the 14 or 15 VIX put 6 months out pretty much involves no risk at all. VIX had to go up at some point, figured it would increase going into January. I only mention this because someone on here was asking what to do with a lot of spare cash and wanted a very conservative trade. That's one possible trade. With commissions, it's about a $13 return per contract over one week while tying up $1400. So that's almost a 1% return in one week. But keep in mind, pretty much no risk at all.
I noticed discrepancies between IB stock closing prices and my other data source( barchart ) in the last 2 weeks. More than usual I mean. It seems fixed now though.
