Catoosa, I thik you hit it on the nose! My user ID is in the two thousand. My dad resently opened an account with them, ID 40,000 something. In the meantime, I suspect that they have not geared up for this kind of growth. They need an OC12 IMHO. I hope they are not running this operation on Windows servers, that would explain it all... nitro
Quotes on NVLS were stuck or lagging all afternoon starting when the trade volume picked up in the afternoon. I gave up on IB for the day and traded through another account. I sure hope IB can correct their problems. Catoosa
Today was the first day I really felt serious pain because of IB crappy quotes. There was a quote delay on MSFT KLAC NVLS, others. I also saw the stuck quotes on NVLS. It's pretty bad when Quote.com QCharts quotes are ahead of IB quotes by 1+ seconds. I usually use BEST limit orders, and I had lots of problems trying to entering orders today. I'm not sure what the root cause of the problems were (quote delay, BEST routing, etc..). I had several situations where I saw liquidity on L2, and I entered a limit order to take it out, and then the order just hung, and then 4-5 seconds later the market moved away, and I had to enter another order. At this point, I would hesitate to recommend IB for shortterm trading ( < 10 minutes horizon). I am using my other brokers more and more lately, because IB is not giving me a warmy and fuzzy feeling anymore.. I have experienced this too often, sometimes it can be beyond a joke. it is so frustrating when you cant take advantage of wide spreads even when the quotes are accurate. someitmes I question whether they are a real direct broker. The only thing keeping me with them is the attractive commissions. However it really is a false economy many times when you cant take advantage of the advantages of true direct access. which other broker do yoiu use ? you recommend?
IB quotes were NEVER suitable for trading , escpecially scalping. Are you folks saying that you can't route an order at the price you want, when their quotes are lagged? I trade only a few stocks with them and while there have been some issues, I have rarely not been able to send an order at a price of my choosing. Bidding or offering on an ECN should work even if the quote is off.
I'm surprised the no one else posted in this thread that NYSE was unavailable for trading from 2:35-3:03pm today. Are you kidding me??? At least IB apologized "for the inconvenience". I love IB's commissions, but this is starting to get ridiculous. I'll be opening another brokerage account soon. I'll keep IB on the off chance that this is just temporary "growing pains", but I need to have something better than this. There are too many other per-share brokers now to not look.
I got into online trading with datek and their fantastic early success caused their system to go into the "toilet bowl" . Anyone who remembers those days: could you please tell if this is another"deja vu" of that calamity or if you feel this situation is different?? Thanks
From what I have experienced with IB for the last two years, IB's quote problems are the result of IB's rapid growth just as with Datek in Datek's rapid growth period. It took Datek many months for Datek's hardware to catch up with fast moving markets. The larger the market volume, the worse are IB's quotes. Traders' best opportunities are in fast moving volatile markets and that is when IB's quotes are stuck or lagging. Catoosa
Missed two fills this morning on CREE and AFFX due to stuck quotes I assume. The Ask was stuck on AFFX and didn't fill my stop, and Cree had a stop triggered 5 seconds after the open and it said "Market Orders not allowed pre-market." That's about the 5th time in a week that's happened. Strongly considering alternatives if this doesn't get resolved.
