IB or TRADEFREEDOM for CDN RRSP Trading

Discussion in 'Options' started by DoubleDown, Dec 27, 2006.

  1. I am brand new to this site. This is my first message. I am an Options trader in Canada. I have traded with IB in the past in a cash account.

I am interested in trading Options in an RRSP account. Can IB accommodate this or Tradefreedom?

I'm looking forward to posting in the future on this site.

    Thanks

I believe the easiest way to figure it out is to call both companies and ask them your questions. Why do you go for the indirect method when you can call them directly (same as trading)? Not sure about Tradefreedom, but IB doesn't do RRSP.

  3. BMO InvestorLine allows option trading in RRSP accounts, but I think it's more of a government regulation on what is allowed in an RRSP account than BMO's decision.

Lots of limitations though and you are better off trading options outside of a RRSP account. The last time I checked you could only trade long calls, covered calls. No puts or short positions and I'm not sure about spreads.

And as BENG stated you should check with the broker.
