Try a proxy, Koppanyi, but one that will accept the https, like www.xerobank.com (there is a 3 day trial period) or a torpark version (but preferably don't take the last, since it's slowwww). Just for a quick check, I used http://anonymouse.org/ and the IB.com site appeared immediately, but the https are not allowed in this case.
i didn't read the particulars on this post. if you hadn't noticed, there has been a rash of threads citing problems with IB where many other posters have confirmed the problems- sometimes with people from all over the world experiencing the same problems. the point of my post was that IB should have seamless redundant backup and that they need to clean up their code so that reconnections actually happen the way they are supposed to when there is a hiccup (or worse). is it your position that these 2 items do not need to be addressed? are you ok with the fact that a server can go down and bring everyone down with it? a professional system with 4 nines of reliability (notice i'm not even looking for the 5 nines standard- hell, 3 nines would be a vast improvement) would solve many problems. a reconnect feature that works reliably would eliminate the need to close down TWS and relaunch it- when you're in a position, this is a big deal. i realize from your posts that you no longer trade the HK markets. relaunching TWS takes an eternity in the HSI/HHI.HK- you switched to other markets because of the vol- well, that vol makes a shaky platform's bugs just that much more painful to tolerate. i just fail to understand how someone who trades for a living could be ok with the fact that their broker does not have adequate redundancy built into their system. you must be much wealthier than i; whereby 1,000's of dollars of platform related losses don't matter enough for you to care...
Not at all. I love to see improvements in my tools. My issue was that you leaped onto your high horse in response to my post and your horse was an illusion. Leaving you lying in the muck you were attempting to rake. I assume you had a bad day on the Hang Seng?
Ghost Typer, Did you solve the problem? What proxy program do you use - if any? Sorry, I'm stupid at informatics, maybe it is easy to adjust the right proxy somewhere in the internet options, but I don't know... I also checked anonymouse.org and IB's website appeared, but account management and TWS upgrade is not possible with it. However through another computer in my workplace, I was able to enter the homepage. So Kiwi was right, country doesn't matter. Koppanyi
I don't want to change or add another internet provider just because of a website. After 5 days, I don't believe that patience will help... Koppanyi
not a high horse- i just think it's well past time that IB solve some very solvable issues. actually, came back and had an ok day. 2 pink outs and a black out cost me quite a bit in actual loss, plus the opportunity cost of missing 2 perfect setups while it was down- all during the morning session. it's been tougher trading this week as teh volume has really dried up and the setups have been far fewer than i've grown accustomed to (making missing them because my broker is down all the more frustrating). funny how different traders/systems can be. you left the HK markets because they got crazy. once i got used to the craziness, i would hate for it to go back to a tighter range. in contrast to you, i have a hard time trading both the STW and SPI- just don't have the same feel for the movements. i'm better with the SGXNK, but not nearly as comfortable as with the HK indicies- i hope they stay like they've been the past 3 months and that daily volume can get over 100m/day in each contract to accommodate more size when i ramp up some day. good luck...
I did find the change hard. But it was actually a good one because I had been trading one market for several years with gradually improving technique. Adapting the same strategy to 3 quite different markets has really forced me to think about what works and why. I still find that HSI tells me what its about to do more clearly than the others. In fact I dropped Nk because the range was so small and changed to forex (yes, really) ... I've found EUR.JPY to have good range, reasonably clean setups, and be uncorrelated with the indexes.
IB ... On the Subject of Improvement Having noted Go4's issue with recovery I noticed that I couldn't backfill US markets yesterday afternoon (Aus time). On my market data USHMDS2a was marked as disconnected. I tried a few times and then restarted TWS (879.9) ... and it connected and the US markets backfill was fine. Well, this afternoon, on arriving back I discovered the same problem. So I restarted TWS ... and guess what, once again all was fine. So, can someone please look at recovery from backfill server connection loss? It does look like 879.9 isn't doing it properly. I will try 878.x tomorrow instead and see if I get a different result.
Note for IB. No problem on 878.5. Will stick with it for a couple of days next week and then return to 879.latest
