Thanks for the info. Will certainly explore the routes suggested. However, I'm surprised that there is no other simple way to improve trades: all I'm asking is to have something similar to market or mid price orders that match fill qualities of TD Ameritrade or Merrill Edge (I believe Fidelity is about similar as Merrill). I'm hoping there is some way to achieve such a fill quality in IB through their other order types or whatever algo orders

I do not think, that to change the order route alone is enough. You also has to change front end, if you want to trade fast with IB.

Then you can make Hotkeys to change order route fast. Most used front end tradings platform for fast stock trading with IB are . DAS TRADER, STERLING, *MEDVED maybe* it is cheap 25 pr MD or REAL TICK.

If you link/use DAS TRADER and open TWS as backup on another computer you can see the order is filed faster on DAS and a second or 2 later you hear the TWS says oder filled.

I can see that you has asked qoustions about it, for some years now, anyway do what you like all Stock Brokers have UPs and Downs and everything is relative. Good trading

I do not totally understand your logic * But it is mean in a good way* Just try to help.

You have had a problem with speed and price of oder fills for 2 years now.

1.Do you compare Appels to Appels an automatet system that send half of your orders *same stocks, time etc.* to IB and TD!

    2. You do not want to pay for an other front end trading platform for IB why!

    3. You think there must be an easy way with IB, because you think so and have do it for 2 years!

    4. You want to fight for midprice, but what is the expected value of the trade *do speed has an impact on EV!

    5. Why do you need an algo order! Lage account size peg to wlap thakes the hole day to execute! why Max rebate ! When you can route direct and get the rebate!

    6. I did not say you should use Nasdaq or ARCA as order route alone, but if you trade Nasdaq stock and change you front end with IB, it maybe will helps!

    7. I can see you asked 2 years ago, something like *If I want to buy a stock 3 min into the opening and max want the oder to rest 1 min before executed!

    8. Telsa maybe has a 5-7 dollars range in the opening minutes! So what does it mean, that your want to trade farst!

It is mean in a good way, I just try to help. I trade the opening with a 1 and 5min chart, so I can not totally understand what your really mean. But, I think you have to move on now.
Fix you problems and/ or move broker.

    If you for
example trade Apple stock, than roughly speaking daily Vol divided by Second is 2000 Apple stock traded pr second *But more bussy at the opening*

Apple stock or SPY around 1 Cent spread. Opening range/fluturations x- 4-8 whatever dollars amount, it does not matter. Your account 5-6 fig. 1-4 or a best portfoil magin.

But, you what to fight for price, at the cost of 1 min to fill your order!

you have got to remember - for some brokers this remains the main method of making money. IB is for "professionals" but not for "ultra professionals", and it seems like you are such.

Indeed, IB is a java platform. A "screen" trader surely needs faster OE system, preferably with very flexible hot keys. When you link those HotKeys to a number of routes, or even better - to SMART routes, your chances of better execution improve drastically.
