I try not to take what "tech support" tells me too seriously - I have been (had been) in the software industry long enough to know that unless you look at the source code, you do not know what a piece of software will allow you to do or not do. I this case, since we do not have the source to TWS, the best next thing is to try it! I put in two limit orders of 100 shares each on the same stock before the market opens. I have been filled several times at the opening print on each. Try it for yourself and see what happens! nitro
Keep getting this error message while trying to connect to TWS via the ActiveX-Api: "Couldn't connect to TWS. Confirm that "Excel Integration" is enabled on the "Settings" menu." I'm using Build 750. Anyone ever worked with tha API? DEM
I told support I wanted to trade NYSE issues on the opening and they told me they don't allow on opening orders. I then asked "her" if I can place a market order prior to the opening and get filled on the opening, she said that I can't place any orders until the market opens at 9:30am. It did'nt make since to me so I asked her if she was sure and got a rude remark back. JJ
Def: Today, I went back and used the old TWS version 2000. 04. 18 in order to take advantage of the right mouse click method of changing the price or share quantity on the drop down order line (right click on the top or bottom of the number you want to change and the number will spool up or down). This is a great time saving method of changing the price or quantity and sure beats the methods in the JAVA based version of TWS. I would like to see this feature incorporated in the JAVA version of TWS. Is there any chance of getting this change? Catoosa
In the new TWS (JAVA), I just hold down the Left mouse button to accomplish the same thing? Is that slower than right clicking?
Ddefina: The JAVA based TWS will get the changes made but is so slooooow that the market has often moved before you can get your changes made to your order line. This is particularly the case for changing the share quantity. Say you click on the offer and your default order size pulls up 1000 shares, but you want to buy 9000 shares. In the old TWS version 2000. 04. 18, you can right click on the top of the "1" in the 1000 quantity and spool the price up to 9000, change the price in the same way if you like, and left click on transmit. You know what you have to do to change the 1000 to 9000 in the JAVA based TWS: You have to use several successive left click hold downs and drags to higher quantities to get to 9000 or you will have to click on the 1000 quantity and use your key board to change the quantity to 9000 and then (if you are not using hot keys) go back to the mouse to click on transmit. This one feature change alone is enough of a reason to use the older TWS 2000. 04. 18 version. Back when IB was working on the release of the JAVA TWS, I e-mailed IB management and tech groups about this short coming with the JAVA TWS, but nothing came of my request. My RealTick 3 order entry system also uses this spooling method on changing the share quantity and price. I do not see how you could improve on what RealTick 3 has for making the changes in the share quantity and price unless just thinking of what you want will get it done. Catoosa
Catoosa: I understand that problem. The scrolling is useless unless your within 10 or so increments. I use the scroll to move my stops, but to change # of shares I manually type in. I guess if I was a scalper type I would complain more.
you can change the scroll defaults by choosing big scale size or big scale price under settings. does this help?
Def: I long since tried the big scale small scale scroll settings and neither come close to the spool feature of the old TWS before the JAVA based TWS. Catoosa
