I downloaded the latest TWS and was disappointed in the "Rapid Order Entry Window". What a waste of screen space. All of the large icons and Rapid Order Entry Window take up 1/3 of the screen height and it appears on all pages! I found I could enter an order almost as fast by entering a new symbol in the symbol column on a page as we have always done. It is a good thing the feature can be disabled. Catoosa
I downloaded the latest TWS update and all of the colors, column headings, and column widths were changed on my TWS page layout. It took me an hour or more to get my page layout back the way I had it prior to the download. This has happened on several of the TWS updates. You would think IB would include the new changes in TWS without changing the users page layout and let the user select the changes to make to the pages. Sounds like a "no brainer" to me. I saved my page layout under a different name this time after I got everything back the way I had it. Catoosa
I ask everyone to ask IB, if you agree with me, to please make the following repairs: 1. Repair; When there are pending entry orders, that I previously placed, that do display on the pending page for a stock ( for example, a gtc buy limit order and a gtc sell short limit order) on the same stock, and then when one of those entry orders is executed and I enter long or short, then when I input onto my trading screen/page ( positions page) that same stock that I just entered , the unexecuted pending order does not display unless I logoff and log back on. The existing pending orders for a stock should always display when a trader inputs a market data row for that stock on a trading page. This is a repair that is needed. 2. Repair. The present profit and loss column is useless in my humble opinion. It should be repaired so that it displays the average P/L per share for the position , truly regardless of entry date ( including entry more than 2 days in the past) and including entry into the position in increments and exiting in increments. 3. Repair; Now, the positions column does not display on the pending page, inducing a trader to easily forget that he has a position in a stock and thereby inducing the trader to accidentally delete stop loss orders on an existing position, because when a trader views a stock on the pending page the position column is blank, even when the trader has a position in the stock. 4. Repair. IB must enable us traders to easily make a full print copy of all the pending orders that display on the pending page by enabling a click button to print the whole pending page ( including all pending orders and the market data row for that stock and including positions on the pending page), so that when IB or someone accidentally cancels all our pending orders, which did happen on 1-18-02, then we can have an easy way to keep a record on paper of all pending orders. IB or server or some one or something accidentally erased or cancelled many many , all , of my pending orders I had previously placed on 1-18-02, and the IB trading desk said the problem was a "bit of an issue for quite a few of the accounts", so I was not the only account to have all their pending orders to be accidentally deleted or erased. We need an easy way to make a print copy of the entire pending order page regardless of the length of the pending page, by clicking one click, just the same way we now can make a print copy of the executions page by clicking once the print button irregardless of the length of the executions page.. I WOULD APPRECIATE IT IF YOU WOULD ASK IB TO MAKE THESE REPAIRS OR IMPROVEMENTS, IF YOU THINK MY IDEAS ARE INDUCIVE TO INCREASING PROFITABLE TRADING. THANKS. DAN COOK in Bakersfield , CA.
DEF, IB, IB Rapid Order Entry still needs improvement, I don't think it saves any time and there is a better and faster way to get a stock symbol and the orderlines with the routes you want displayed in the quote page with only typing in the symbol to the stock once, then hitting <enter>. When a news story on a stock hits the news wires a few seconds delay can cause missed entrys/exits, so seconds count. The solution: Scrap the Rapid order entry box- it takes up to much space, and we traders want the new stock order lines displayed in the page. Do this: Say CSCO has a news story and I want to display the quote lines using BEST, ISLD, and REDI, in that order, (which is what I always use, on every NAS stock). In the menu bar place a default option to chose which order routes to use every time a stock is typed into a row of the quote page, where I would prechoose BEST, ISLD, REDI. All I have to do then is click on a empty row and type CSCO <enter>, and the three CSCO quote lines with three separate routes will fill in. If there was only one row available the additional rows needed would be inserted automatically. A hot key poping up a ticker entry box would work good to, say hit F1 (assigned), ticker box pops up, enter CSCO <enter>, and CSCO is filled into the top three rows of the existing page with the three order/quote lines. Simple. I now have the three order lines I want, with the complete information/price/click and cancel/ transmit with hot key functions, which the Rapid Order entry box dose not display. Typing in a price is a step backwards. Fleance ask that a hot key function be used that would allow a popup ticker entry box which would allow several tickers to be inputted with the separation of a comma- great idea. Hit hot key, type in CSCO,JNPR <enter>, the preselected order routes are now displayed in the page, six lines, FAST, TWO key strokes, no mouse movements, Supper fast, and where I want the quotes to be. So see what you can do. Thanks, Terry dg_flier
Two things, regarding order entry and open order display. 1- When you trade somewhat illiquid issues, you may sometimes have a wide market. Example: a preferred I was buying Thursday or Friday had a market of something like 69.90 / 70.30. When I click on the offer of 70.30, to place a bid, I MIGHT want to buy the offer of 70.30, but in my case, I more often want to do one of the following: - join the bid (i.e., place my bid at 69.90) - go in front of the bid (placing mine at 69.91, or maybe 69.9001 on a Nasdaq issue) - go in at the last. So I click the offer of 70.30, and then I can click, in the order entry row, on the limit price and get to choose up and down from 70.30. However, that's not going to be a quick route to anything like 69.90 or 69.91. In those cases (which is most of the time, for me), I have to select the existing price, erase the whole thing, and retype the whole thing, allowing me chances to screw up and accidentally end up with 769.91. 2- When displaying an order, I'd like it, ideally, if it showed my SELLs under the OFFER on the market data row, and showed my BIDs under the BID on the market data row. So, in my example above, I might see something like this... bid size bid ask ask size last... 100 69.90 70.30 500 .... 500 69.91 LMT .. where the first row is the market data, and the second is my bid. 3- It would be nice to have a quick route to unload your position. For example: say my standard size is 1000 shares, and I now buy a couple units, and now have 2000 shares. Then I try to buy some more, but I get a partial, for 768 shares. I now have 2768 shares. Then the market craps out. It would be very nice to be able to click on my position (which reads 2768), and have it pull up an order entry row defaulting to a SELL 2768 @ bid price. 4- It would be nice to be able to set standard size by symbol, and not globally. Thanks for listening!
Def, perhaps you could give us some insight into IB's thoughts on NYSE Openbook. Is some integration planned as part of a fee service? Will it become part of Market Depth? Packaged with L2? Ignored? Thanks.
I didn't know IB would accept 69.9001 order. I thought you couldn't incerement your price by 0.0001...
re NYSE deep book. I've seen some internal documentation so I assume it will be supported. when, how, how much I do not know. wonderduck, you can choose big scale as your price ticker. this could help. slide once, slide it again and you'll get your price. as for your other comments, i'll add them to the list I periodically send to the states. dg_flier, the rapid order entry has gotten mixed reviews. some love it, other like yourself do not find it helpful. I have tested it and find entering a symbol and hitting <tab> <tab> <tab> <enter> quite fast. cocinero2, sounds like you already sent your request to ibmgmt. i'm not sure all your "repars cartoosa, ouch. i passed on your comment. i assume this happened even after you saved your layout.
I have a comment regarding options. I just loaded a page full of options for different stocks and found that when you do so, the underlying stock symbols are all listed together at the very top of the page. I think it would be way more useful if, when the stock symbol appears, it's listed just above the relevant option contracts. Having all of the underlying symbols at the top of the page is pretty useless when you've scrolled down the page and can no longer see the top lines. Thanks, 99
