using Platinum newest version. Been trading on it for almost 2 months now and seriously, not even one single log off, freeze up, etc. the entire time. And as always the executions are flawless. FWIW.
I patiently waited to see if others were logged out prematurely this morning, and I guess it wasn't just me. I've been using the stock version of TWS for 8 months w/o too many problems, but today was my first day with the futures version. My first trade I decide to go short 1 contract of the NQ mini to test the waters, and placed a protective stop a few points above for two contracts. 10 seconds later I get logged out. oh @#@#!, my first trade and this happens! I wasn't too worried since my stop would get me out and go long one contract if the market reversed. When I got logged back in, I was still short one contract, but the position had moved against me 17 points. So rather than being up 13 points, I was down 17 because my stop didn't fill, and I wasn't long 1 contract. I bailed and have quit trading for the day with a $350 loss. Is this normal for the futures version of TWS? I figure it will take 146 trades to make this loss back up if I'm saving $2.40 per side over the competition. And this is only my first day! I did get a message saying they were having internet connection problems. Is this a new thing, or does it happen often with the futures version?
There was a massive spike in packet loss on the net this am . You can ck it on: www.internettrafficreport.com VERY unusual but it does happen
Dedefina, Sorry for what happened, this is not acceptable. I thought an ISP problem would not prevent stop orders to be triggered since they were on IB servers. I try to favor emini entries in the first phases of a trend and avoid shorts before 10:15 am so in case of technical failure, odds are the damages will be limited.
So just my bad luck today? Just figures! I put my foot in the "futures" waters and a shark bites my leg off. I'll hobble in tomorrow and see if I can earn back an artificial limb, or become a paraplegic. Thats an interesting website. Thanks for the info.
Valid only for CME/Globex: Now you ran into this stupid problem just with your first trade. We discuss this with Def for weeks. Currently stops are held on IB´s server and work fine - unless IB server gets disconncted from Globex quote stream. IB server needs Globex quote stream to trigger the stop and send it to the exchange. Today IB was disconnected from ISP1 for a while and switched to ISP2, something like that. See Bulletin Board http://status.interactivebrokers.net/statuscgi/bb.pl or http://status.interactivebrokers.net/statuscgi/create_status_report.pl System Status 12:14 EST Due to an UUNET systems failure some customers may have experienced a service interuption, we have re-routed to an alternate ISP. All connectivity has been restored. Due to an INSTINET failure only directed orders will be processed for this exchange. INSTINET will be ineligible for BEST order routing. All IB systems are operating normally.
Don't know how to take your response, but I'm not trying to slam IB. I've been trading stocks with them for 8 months and it's been worth it. I've rarely been logged out. I just happen to try out futures, and the first day I'm logged out and my stop isn't filled. I've since found out it was a major Internet outage so all is forgiven. I've since done 3 more trades and the fills have been very fast. I've placed 3 stop limits, with the limit price .50 below the stop election price and all three have filled. I'm sure in a faster market this wouldn't work, but so far (fill wise) things are better than expected.
