IB uses a low level socket connection. Any internet storm or latency will cause that connection to get dropped. Most Windows users need to adjust their RWIN in order to prevent this latency condition. The RWIN default in Windows is set too high and causes the >2sec latency condition which is a reason why some users are getting dropped connections. Go www.dslreports.com/tools/ and run the tweak test. If you get the >2sec latency condition, download Dr. TCP and adjust your RWIN number according to the web site. European and Asian users may benefit from turning on timestamps also explained in the FAQ. The Dr. TCP tweak FAQ- http://www.dslreports.com/faq/578 Here is a link which discusses RWIN ranges. For the most stable connection pick the lowest RWIN number that the tweak test won't complain about. The idea is to give up a little capacity in order to lower latency. http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks/RWIN
i cant even log on ib this morning.Am new to ib. Have had nothing but problems.have not had problems with others. Is this a case of you get what you pay for?
Puffy - Thanks for the info! I'm on a cable connection but I'm sure I can still tweak the system, knowing that Windows' deafult settings are never to the advantage of the power user.
Another possibility is your ISP. Do a tracert to the IB server from your 'DOS window.' If you have one of those 20 hop, +150 ms routes to the IB server, you may have trouble keeping a good connection open. Different ISPs do have different connections to the internet, even for DSL. Some do it cheap, some not. Your ISP might be fine for web browsing, but keeping a socket connection open all day is something that the cheapo DSL companies probably don't plan for.
Yesterday I was constantly being re-connected from premarket through about 10am EDT Today all quotes are frozen, no bid/offers on ETFs. Orders going through OK but is that the next thing to go. Shit.
