  2. Do you actually have any Java Plug-ins still installed? (I'm not talking about the Java JRE, but an actual plug-in.) IE 5.5 SP2 doesn't use them and you should not have any installed in the browser.

PG I looked at internet options in the browser and the advanced tab. The only theing checked other than the JRE is JIT virtual machine etc.

  7. See if you have anything like this:
    C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\java_plugin_AppletStore\....

That should be cleared. Look in the control panel if there is a Java Plug-in control (looks like a cup of coffee). Open if up, disable the plug-in and clear the plug in cache.

  9. CurrenVersion needs to be set for the browser to know which Java JRE to use. Do a search on CurrentVersion. It might not have a value but it should be there.

Click on the thing that says Java Runtime Environment under Software\JavaSoft.

  10. Just curious, under Java Runtime Enviroment you should have BOTH 1.4 and then something longer like 1.4.0_1.

Under 1.4 the JavaHome should be the same as the one under 1.4.0_1.
