    Yes, those pop ups are extremely annoying. Cross hairs are much more common and more easily help to identify the bar one wishes to get information about.

  2. If you have Snagit, you can invert the colors of the chart with it
    before saving or printing the chart if you want to...

    Just started another thread asking about the TWS candlestick charting here http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?threadid=49655
    Did you guys eliminate the ability to create candlestick charts? Hope not as that wouldn't be "improving" the charts. :)
    Here's my post:
    "I just opened an account at Interactive Brokers and I'm playing with the TWS software to see what it can do. I had YM up on Monday or maybe it was Friday, and had a live chart opened with 5-min candlesticks with about a 1 hr or 30 min range. They worked great and looked great. They were about 1/2" thick and maybe 1" long. If the 5-min candle was lower it was red, higher green, and as each candlestick was forming the candle was red or green with a thin yellow line or maybe a black line through the middle with a dot in the middle and would flash black if the last trade was at the previous candle's close or red or green if it was lower or higher respectively. You could see the trades as they were made. The candlesticks looked a little like this one on the left except they were red and green with the line through the middle, as I mentioned. http://www.altavest.com/images/chart20.gif
    Now the last few days when I tried to recreate this, I couldn't. :-( I called them but it was after the software people left and the guy I talked to didn't know. Does anyone know what I'm referring to and how to recreate this? Did they just change the software so you can't do this? Thanks."

  5. "Quote from Cdntrader:

    yes white background is preferable.

    Also linked charts so selecting different symbols uses the exisiting open chart. Having to open a new chart to view a new symbol everytime makes no sense.

    This is just a basic need.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    This is already supported."

    Linking is supported?

    The only linking I see is the ability to drag and drop symbols into charts which results in an line graph overlay over the intial symbol. I'm looking for the ability to replace the existing symbol with the new one on the chart.

    Am I missing that feature?

    Thanks

  6. ==================

    1] Many of the old timers like William O'Neil prefer barcharts.:cool: ;
    however for those with eyes over 29 years old , candlecharts are easier to read, like a pen is easier to see than a spiderweb.

    2] Also in my opinion candlecharts are much quicker to read;
    and much quicker to comprehend, especially lengthly timeframes ;
    same principle ,city engineers design stop/go lights more like
    candlecharts, not skinny spiderweb style barcharts.

    3]When you can ,yes on color changes.

    Hope this helps.

    IN IB REALTIME CANDLE STICK CHART, I FOUND THE OPENING PRICE FOR ONE DAY IS NOT THE FIRST PRICE OF THE DAY.

    FOR EXAMPLE, HKFE HSI OPEN AT 9:45:00 AM LOCAL TIME, OPENING PRICE ON IB INTERACTIVE REALTIME CHART IS THE FIRST PRICE AFTER 9:45:00. BUT THE ACTUAL OPENING PRICE SHOULD BE PRODUCED AT 9:43:00, AS A RESULT OF PRE-OPENING ASK & BID.

    DOES ANYONE ELSE NOTICE THIS ?

    Absolutely! This is the way it is. IBsoft, it seems that maybe you're not a professional trader, just a guess. A professonional trader wouldn't say, "1) Could you please explain the difference between the candlestick and bar charts; don't they both show the same thing?". And certainly nothing wrong with that. And maybe you're one hell of a software guy, but you should ask the professional traders using the software what they think <B><U>before elimiinating features or adding them for that matter.</B></U> Let's work together. It's your job evidently to improve the software and in our job we use it. Onward and upward. BTW, will the candlesticks be added back in shortly? I left you a PM but maybe you haven't seen it yet. We're on your side if you work with us. :)

    joesan, we offer access to over 50 exchanges. you can't expect those programming to know the ins and outs of every exchange. fwiw, I was actually involved in the HKFE committee meetings when the auction process was designed but I never thought about the opening print occurring before 9:45 in terms of charting as never rely nor rarely look at charts when trading. our system (both on the prop side and IB side) just takes in and displays the prices. so in short, blame me, not the programmers. I'll pass along the details and see if we can get the auction print into the charts.
