IB: can I close ALL my positions based on hitting a total target?

Discussion in 'Order Execution' started by mechtrader, Jan 30, 2012.

  1. Let's say I have 4 different futures trades working, and I want to simultaneously exit all 4 of these different contracts when the TOTAL combined P&L hits a certain figure (profit or loss). Is there a way to do this at IB without resorting to programming the API?

  2. <bump>

Anyone out there know the answer to this?

    Thanks.

  3. I doubt without programming there is an existing feature that would let you do this.

The reverse exists. Loose a certain amount and your remaining positions will be closed out.

Best way to find out is to contact IB.

  4. Yes you can. If you use the ExcelDDE API to open your positions and keep track (with your formulas) of the PnL then you can have a trigger that will close your positions (send orders at least, lol).
I would not leave that unattended because the ExcelDDE is not completely reliable.

  5. Oups, it did not read well (skipped the without), it requires programing with the API.

  6. OK, thanks for the replies, guys.

I'll contact IB and see what they have to say. If there is a way, I'll post back here.
