[IB] asks phone number for authentication

Discussion in 'Interactive Brokers' started by jk90029, Jun 28, 2017.

  1. Dear-

Attached is the photo asking iphone/Android for IB login.

    1) Probably customer should leave IB, in case he does NOT use cell. Is it true?
    2) Possibly he does not want to release phone number for his phone, even if he uses phone.
    3) If other brokers in US asks phone number together, he should leave US stock market? Possibly forever?

Appreciated if anyone shows me relevant explaining link or shows me any law/code/... .

PS) I understand that we should give SSN for opening a new brokerage account.
Should IB customer give phone to IB? Is it under law?

    -Jay

  2. Since NYSE shows highest top last months, it might be a best time to leave market after cashing all equities.
We may no see the index of 21000 any more next 10 years.

Asking phone may result to customer leaving forever.

  4. I agree that we should use passcode or OTP at least for identification.

If you mean that one should choose ONE of passcode+OTP+cellphone, then no problem at all.

However note that fingerprint (at the photo) may not be a good idea.

You can use one of the two security devices listed by that link if you don't want to go with the cell phone.

    Seriously? Your *phone* number?

If you're the type to question this, then IB *should* not accept your patronage. Gonna be too costly down the road.

  7. If IB ask me personal info like phone seriously, I can leave soon.
If IB offer me phone with FREE brokerage, then I still leave too.

  8. No problem if IB ask me ONE of passcode OR security card(OTP). Those are minimum requirements I understand.

So... you trust them with your money... but not with your phone number?
