IB and server time?

Discussion in 'Interactive Brokers' started by Tonkadad, Jul 18, 2005.

  1. Can someone explain to me why when I adjust my computer clock time the server time for IB's TWS adjusts itself?

There doesn't seem to be any pattern other than if I change the time on my computer clock the server time for TWS changes.

that is just how tws works. the time is base on the time of your omputer clock.

It probably just measures the delta between the server time and your computer clock when you log in (and maybe periodically thereafter), and then displays your local clock plus that delta ongoing.

Does it change (to be different from your computer clock) if you log out and back in again? In my case, they are identical because I set my clock from a primary NIST time server, and I expect IB does the same.

TWS synchronizes time with IB's servers at login, adjusted for time zone. After that, if you change your own clock, TWS will also change. This will be corrected at the next login.
