I Want to do some evening session break out trades on ES and I have read in some thread that you cant use a stop order but must use a stop limit for over night trades with IB. Is this true?
Stop-limit orders are native to Globex, and you can use them at anytime. If you want to use stop orders overnight - these are simulated by IB, and you will need to configure your TWS in order for them to work. You can do this, via Configure>>Order>>Stop Trigger Method
is that when Globex reopens at midnight EST a trader still has to wait 1 more hour for IB to reset and open up for business I would guess that there are some other firms out there that are open for business when globex reopens
hong kong office just told me you can offset and liquidate using market order if needed in the 12 am - 1 am EST time frame and they might even waive the $30 order desk fee
Yes, there's not too much we can do about that until we have a 24 hour system - which is being worked on. Your only other choice is to switch servers to the Hong Kong server which shuts down at 3pm EST for about 20 minutes. For closing orders you can also place them by phone
Your only other choice is to switch servers to the Hong Kong server yes I would like another waiter please !
