IB ActiveX Learning Curve

Discussion in 'Trading Software' started by bungrider, Mar 11, 2002.

  1. To those out there that have used the API to interface TWS with MS Excel, what is the learning curve for someone who knows very little about programming in general, and has never programmed in VB before?

In other words, should I just pay someone else to do it for me?

    Thank you!

It isn't overly difficult if you have some decent programming experience. See if you fully understand the code in the Excel examples provided by IB. You may just be able to make modifications to that sample code depending on how complex a system you need.

On the other hand, I have watched many people that only had a little coding experience work on relatively simple programs, and they often got very frustrated. So you may at the very least want to pay someone to "tutor" you in the learning process. I always like to encourage new programmers if they actually want to learn.

If you just want it to work and you don't really plan on messing with the end result, and you don't really care how it works, pay someone. javascript:smilie(':D')
