I favor a "Shutdown Lite" in which you only shut down the problem areas assuming you have adequate timely testing and contact tracking.

In contrast, countries that knew beforehand that they did not have proper PPE, did not have adequate timely testing and did not have adequate contact tracking and they knew their citizens / residents were not going to be socially responsible...

Those countries had no choice but to do a "full shutdown".

The few countries that were prepare...they either did not shutdown or they did only a shutdown lite.

Philippines has a lot of contract tracing and testing everyone practically, suspected of having Corona Virus yet, infections continue to increase. Why would it decrease when people who have been starved for days, now go the the markets en masse and try and buy food to eat? Now, you have more people out and about after the shutdown and most of them vulnerable to Corona Virus? They also, drink the WHO kool aid about banning Hydrochloroquine among approved drugs? Common sense would dictate you use all the drugs available at your disposal and leave the doctor to decide with the patient, what course to take? You have hydrochloroquine, azithromycin, steriods, blood plasma anti-bodies, remdesivir and intubation. Of course, intubation has caused the deaths of 80% of patients intubated. Sad for third world countries because their political leaders do not know any better. Now, they are ready to embrace the Russian vaccine to deal with Corona Virus.

Luckily our military isn't being used to lock people indoors. :D

    Misinformation / Disinformation...

Shutting down is a dumb solution because people still have to earn a living to eat. Starving people only, makes them more vulnerable to getting the Corona Virus with their weak immune system. People still have to go to the grocery store, pharmacy, post office, etc. The economic toll is going to be worst with the lost jobs which are not coming back.
    • I think that's an odd statement because you had prior stated people should just move their business operations online.
Regardless, most people do not need to go to the grocery store. Most people do not need to go to the pharmacy...most of these types of stores do delivery and some do it for free during this Pandemic whereas its different for other countries in which you have a bigger grocery bill or a delivery fee.

Of course there's an economic toll. There has never been a Pandemic nor a Epidemic when there was not an economic toll. Its like saying there's a war and nobody gets hurt...reality...there's a social / physical / mental / economic toll.
    • In some situations, there's a political toll. Governments change based upon how it managed a Pandemic.
Also, it depends on the country about how much of a toll there will be but there will be some sort'uv of a toll. Thus, some countries needed to do a full lockdown. Other countries only needed to do a lockdown lite while a few countries did not need to do a lockdown.

Thus, depending upon the country...the economic toll will either be worst or less based upon how prepare they were prior to the Pandemic and how prepare they were after re-opening. The point I'm making...there is a toll.

Be aware of this fact as an example, some countries that did not lockdown...their economy is worst or deteriorating because their economy was dependent upon trade relationships with other countries that did a lockdown or they did not lockdown while having a healthcare system not able to manage the Pandemic and the latter resulted in unusual number of deaths.
    • The world is not like the early 1900's...each country less dependent upon other countries.
Today, we're more globally connected and more dependent upon each other and even more so for the typical person that's not rich.

P.S. Hopefully you're not in a country that uses the performance of its stock market to determine if life is good or bad during a Pandemic.

I'm in a country that uses some of those therapeutics (e.g. remdesivir, blood plasma anti-bodies) but everything else is your choice if you can get access to it when the government doesn't support it.

As for "intubation" usually the person is in very bad health condition as in near death. Survival outcomes aren't good regardless to the type of disease. Most being intubated from Covid-19 have been elderly or a person with an underlying health condition with worst expected outcomes than the general hospitalized person.
In contrast, if you're able to breath on your own, able to make decisions about your health care...they typically will go the "therapeutics" route and only put you on a ventilator when needed whereas intubation is like a "last resort" (life saving step) when nothing else will work.

    Good news+ bad news.
Joe Biden has one foot + much of his mind in the grave[ voters may shut him down]
Bad news is his vp pick is a tax+ spender/God hater/ Gun hater. Her mentor, mayor willie brown, warned her not to be vp.
    I'll end on some good positive news;
\dems seem to ignore the fact ''gun control is a loser for democrats '':caution::caution::D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Let's go back in time a little...

The Ebola virus was supposed to kill millions (if not billions) and nothing happened.
The H1N1 virus was supposed to kill millions (if not billions) and nothing happened.
The AIDS virus was supposed to completely destroy Africa (to begin with) and nothing happened (Africa has now the fastest growing population on earth).

In fact most people don't even remember (or care about) these past doomsday predictions anymore.

Now we have the new kid on the block, Corona.

So, deja vu all over again?

    Perhaps.

One thing is certain, though : the only Corona I know for sure is this one. :D

But there aware they've already done this and well it just came back, so unless the plan is shut down for ever and everyone just watches netflix until the food and power run out then starve and freeze, then it's kind of a pointless plan.

Correct, sadly everyone is running around trying to discredit them to save there own asses.

6,000 Extra Deaths in Sweden, nearly 6000 Covid deaths so fair enough, UK has 30K deaths and 30K Lockdown deaths and 6x's population so, better than UK no lockdowns, but the Media skip that part. Then they try to make out, the people got scared and actually did lockdown, yeah right!!

Just lock away the old and at risk, tell everyone else very very low odds it'll kill you, grow some balls and carry on regardless.

Leaning on the science is far from a sure thing. It has become highly politicized. Even the Trump administration tries to chip away the influence of its own science team.

God and Country is the rallying cry. But deep down, people vote for their paychecks.
