You did indeed - and that was kind from you. But why the passive aggressive, somehow patronising but certainly confrontational question at the end of your reply? "Where did you got the impression that IB will liquidate without notification? Just a guess?"
It was a genuine - not a passive aggressive, patronizing, confrontational - question. If your impression was based on a guess, I would expect to continue to receive notifications from IB and thus avoid forced buy-ins by anyone other than myself as have been my experience throughout the years. However, if your impression was based on something concrete - the IB web page, an answer from IB chat, a new message from IB etc. - I would have had to consider the possibility of forced buy-ins without prior notifications contrary to my experience and would have had to follow up.
I've had an institutional account with IB for over 10 years, that's where I get my information from lol. You rarely have low float runners available. Pre-borrows are only useful if you have a crystal ball to borrow before a low float is running since they won't get filled either once inventory is gone. Just yesterday you had no shares of SAVA and couldn't fill shorts when it ran over 10. TZ and CP did have shares of SAVA available though and that's how it is the majority of the time in my experience.
That's interesting and perhaps you just got beat to shares as I just did a trade lookup for SAVA on Friday the 3rd and see a large number of trades flagged as short sales during the day on the name including a decent number over $10.
FWIW, I did a bit more research on this. After confirming short sales that took place throughout the entire day from our clientele (including after hours), I see that our site shows availability as well both currently and historically. Perhaps if you wish to PM me your account # or username, I can ask support to track down why you did not see availability. Are the shortable shares shown in this screenshot the current inventory IB has available for shorting?
