What is this, gang up on TDawg day or some shit? We needed Ron Paul. We didn't get him...but between the two, I'd want Obama over McCain (and especially that dimwit Palin). That's not necessarily saying a whole lot though. We are in a total clusterfuck situation right now, and we can't just sit around bitching and moaning. The gummint isn't going to help us. We keep voting these dumbasses into office and then bitch about them the next 4-8 years...it's become the American way. Can't wait to see how many incumbents get reelected to congress next time around. After all the shit people have been talking about them, it will be funny to see how many of the same people get voted right back into office.

Economically, I adhere to Keynsian economics for the most part, but as it was originally prescribed and not as it was bastardized by those who conveniently played only one side of the equation for political expediency. I agree with the late John Kenneth Galbraith who viewed supply side economics as follows: "After feeding oats to the horses, one should not gaze too closely at what trickles down to the sparrows." Without getting off the topic of the thread it is hard to know the relative threat level that OBL was given in amongst all the other threats that must have been coming across the intelligence wire at the time. Compounding the confusion is the import that the Clinton administration assigned OBL, which doesn't seem to have differed appreciably from Bush. The concern that this thread really highlights is that we are at risk of throwing the baby, in this case the free market system, out with the bathwater in our desperation to grasp at any solution to the economic malaise, a desperation that could easily be exploited by someone who is adept at convincing the American people that s/he has the answers and can stop the pain. This is the first time in my life (I am 40) that I see the economic and societal ground fertile for candidate with a command economy style plan to flourish within the next 5 election cycles.
Mvic, I understand your point, but I don't share your concern. I think your country has a fine, intelligent and thoughtful man in the White House who will prove to be a good leader. If I should be proven wrong, then I will admit it. But I don't think that will happen.
anarcho-capitalism is the ideal. however, current reality, with the mixture of capitalism and socialism, pushes the forces of socialism to the forefront in an attempt to get back to the capitalistic structure. At this point, there really isnt any other choice if the status qou is to be maintained. only time will tell the results of the process surf
