Let me just say that I think new age stuff is a load of crap but I think it has value (but also that same value is fund in most other belief systems). E.g. positive thinking (or the law of attraction blah blah): Just because all successful people are positivists doesn't mean that all positivists are successful. Being a positive thinker is a prerequisite to taking the leap (if you did not think positively about your odds you wouldn't do it). But we know that 90% or more of people that try to start their own businesses fail. I'm just saying that there is a huge component of survivorship bias in the thing. Looking at all the winners and noting they all thought they could succeed does not mean that simply thinking you can succeed means you will succeed only that it is a necessary step among many to succeed.
