How would this PalmOS work though with Slate since they've ditched Windows 7? I'm assuming that native Windows apps and existing trading software would not be compatible with this? I've considered using the iPad to terminal into my PCs for access to my trading setup but other than that I don't know how these devices would be very useful for trading natively.
3 million iPads in 80 days My god, it's speeding up! 2 mil in 59 days = 33,898 per day 3 mil in 80 days = 37,500 per day 192 days left in the year * 37,500 = 7.2 million. Total 10 million. So that analyst with the top prediction may actually come true.
I think I'm going to wait and see what Google comes up with as an iPad killer. Chrome OS has a lot of potential and I'm so used to tabbed browsing that I don't think Safari cuts it. I was excited about iPad at first but after doing some research, right now is not the time to buy one. iPad is missing three key things that I can see and it is underpowered for what you are paying... basically just a giant iPhone except: 1) no camera 2) no multitasking 3) no Flash Surprisingly (not) Apple just introduced multitasking with the iPhone 4. You're telling me that this wasn't available already when the iPad launched? Also, leaving out the camera just makes people want it even more when the iPad v2 comes out with a ... you guessed it video camera / multitasking ! It is like when the iPhone v1 came out eveyone went crazy but it sucked because it wasn't 3g and ATT's network was so slow. This is just Apple's ploy to get the first in line morons to buy one now and one later... Apple is lucky to have such "good" customers...casinos have them too but they are called degenerate gamblers. I think Google/Verizon could make an interesting combination and that tablet would be a serious threat to Apple just like the Driod has been to iPhone. Plus the HP is also a possibility. I agree that tablet computing could replace the laptop eventually but the iPad is not functional enough right now to accomplish this. It is a nice looking toy though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=debO2FroXA0
You may complain all you want. But it's no coincidence that HP Slate, MS Courier and others decided to cancel their offerings once the iPad came out, especially at its price point. The others can't yet match the polish of Apple's products. Droid X looks really cool but my friend has the original Droid and can't stop complaining about it.
I still think it is a neat device and got to try one out the other weekend but not a serious tool yet. It definitely has potential just like the iPhone did in 2007. I would just prefer to get it once Apple has fleeced the bulk of their user base the first time and then come out with a better one later. It is not hard to see why they make so much money off of their products. Yes, they are elegant but Apple is no better than Microsoft in over-hyping and then under-delivering the original product. I may end up getting an iPad after all because I like my iPod Touch a lot but I'd rather have a decent computer in a tablet form if I'm going to pay 700-800. Plus, I know Apple's game and they undoubtedly leave out desirable features for a later version. Smart strategy for them but not so much for their users (but that Apple Kool-Aid sure tastes good doesn't it? mmmm).
It is a game changer. I've done a detailed study of it and have concluded that it will have the same effect on the segment, and eventually printed matter, as the iPod did with the portable music player segment.
Apparently this is a common theme. People who dislike Apple for the sake of disliking them i.e. comments like "Apple Kool-Aid". A number of your points I would dispute. 1. fleecing their clients. iPad was priced very competitively. As I said competitors abandoned their own offerings because they couldn't compete. iPhones are now priced competitively. The main price point is now $199. They are smart in offering even better value with the previous generation at $99. The original iPhone at $600 was a new unproven technology which is why they priced it so high. They didn't know what the market would be like. 2. Overhyping? Undelivering? iPhone 4 has been considered a resounding success as evidented by the incredible demand. The fit, finish and polish of the product and more importantly the timely delivery i.e. not vaporware are all evidences of Apple delivering. There was a game called Duke Nukem Forever, the ultimate example of overhyping and undelivering. Developers keep hyping it as the next greatest thing but keep delaying it. It's been like 15 years, I think and they still haven't delivered it. Apple should be commended for delivering an excellent product that delivers a very high satisfaction level. Just because they didn't satisfy the wet dreams of every high tech geek, they are accused of overhyping.
Ok, see if you can explain this one to me since you are such a huge fan of Apple. They just released version 4 of the iPhone/iPod Touch OS which includes many long awaited new features. I downloaded this on my iPod Touch today hoping to get multi-tasking finally. However, it now appears that they are not enabling multi-tasking even with the upgrade on iPod touch 8/16GB models. Seems that Apple is screwing the users who own lower end models again. There is no technical reason why multi-tasking should still be disabled but that's the way it goes with Apple. Apple is worse than Microsoft with these selective feature upgrades and limited functionality on new products!
