Currently in the same boat, I have an iPhone 3G. Apparently certain things will be disabled/toned down because Apple felt the hardware couldn't handle the additional load without downgrading the experience. Considering that they have produced excellent results so far, I would tend to trust their judgment. Either way, you can jailbreak the device to enable MT I heard.
iPhone 4 is out and getting a lot of demand apparently. Too bad it loses 3g reception when you hold it in your hand a certain way. Maybe Apple can come up with a special designer iPhone glove accessory to sell along with it. Droid X is looking better and better everyday. On the right is the "correct" way to hold the iPhone 4.
You mean the left. That's why they are selling the expensive $29 bumper. Seriously it's hard to believe this got past QA. Prob due to all the secrecy, they didn't do enough testing. I'm interested in the comparison with Droid X versus iPhone 4. But a lot of reviewers are saying the iPhone 4 is hands down the top dog now.
The metal strip around the middle is the antenna. Here's the instruction for the tear down if you're a supra nerd geeker. http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPhone-4-Teardown/3130/1
Here's is Steve Job's response to the hand holding antenna problem on iPhone 4. Classic! Doctor, my neck hurts when I turn my head from to right to left. Doctor says well then don't turn your head. Problem solved! Apple drones, your god has spoken. Stop complaining about the iPhone 4 reception. It is clearly your fault because you are not holding it correctly not Apple's. Carry on.
One positive, the new antenna design does hold signal better. Just make sure to hold it with 2 fingers. Fallon gets better signal
