Ubuntu forum was just hacked. Kind of surprising... and wasn't too thrilled about it. http://ubuntuforums.org/announce.html
Wow hack vs hack. Maybe we could get the guys with funny masks in the same ring with Snowden like battle royal retro. Oh that's right Snowden is one of them. Strip that Nobel Prize from Nobama and give it to Snowden and Assage.
Ubuntu and also Mint have a terrible unclear font in every browser. until they are not able to do the simplest things, all this is crap.
I can understand where you're coming from here, sometimes the simplest things are such a massive PITA, it's a shame, because there are a lot of cool aspects to the platform. But a couple of hundred bucks for a Windows licence every couple of years is no biggie, then you can spend more time building models than spending hours trying to get your second monitor or printer to work.
ubuntu and esp. Mint is cool, i like them. but i cant work having a terrible font on my windows. i checked for solutions, didnt find any. with windows 7/XP my firefox plots everything clear, with Mint i had no chance....
Ubuntu is great for everyday use! I replaced Windows with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on my laptop and never looked back. IE fonts very good and e way better than on Ubuntu+Chrome but I cannot say they are terrible, I think they are alright. Now, Unity is a nonsense so I am currently running 12.04 LTS in fallback mode (gnome 2 style). GNOME community has finally came to senses and developing GNOME 3 Classic mode so when Canonical drops fallback support there will be Classic. I've tried Cinnamon for a desktop but it is coarse and buggy.
I personally prefer Fedora. My brother was a developer on the project years ago and I think it's an excellent system for business, personal or other use. Would be great to have some trading apps but the distribution isn't large enough to warrant it. Both are great Operating Systems though.
I recall seeing Ub offering paid support that's smart and will lead to wider Linux acceptance. I believe Mandriva does similar out of France.
As far as trading is concerned, what is the advantage of using linux over windows? Please answer above either from the perspective of medium intenseive automated trading like sending 1-10 orders per second or even full HFT like sending 100s of orders and then cancelling them per second.
