First of all, How To Make Money in Stocks by William O'Neil is not crap in my opinion. But I do not think it is a good beginner's book. It's a must read if you want to understand the contents of Investors Business Daily. But that will come later. If you wan't to get a good start from reading books try High Probability Trading by Link and Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets by Murphy. After reading about 50 or so books trying to learn I wish that I would have started with those two. However, books alone are no substitute for actual trading experience. Just like a Police Academy student isn't a good cop when he graduates the Academy. It takes experience on the streets to develop skills.
