I've got to respect the cohunas you guys have who day trade the HSI, that thing can anywhere in the short term as you've got a mainly retial investor driven market with a mad gambling streak. I've developed an adaptive moving average system that trades the HSI in the mid-long term with great results in both backtest (although 2000 for a fairly poor year) and live trading. I choose the HSI for the same reason many of you seem to have focused on it. You want a market that moves and when it does move you want to move in meaningful size. The HSI has that in spades. Given its association with China and future stream of China-based listings I can't see this market losing its sizzle anytime soon.
Must be the IB daily reset because my auto log off is set to after the 2nd session closes. At what time is the IB daily reset ?
Good info ! I have checked these boxes. Thank you. So, if IB does it's daily reset (still don't know what time this occurs) it should connect to IB. But, I usually get a message from IB TWS asking if I want to accept incoming and have to manually click this. I have looked at the TWS manual and can not find a way to have this occur automatically. DEF ????
Hi Risharb I'm very interested how IB show the VMAP on the bar/candle. Could you post the VMAP Candle(if no, bar is okay) charts for 1 and 5 mins as well as daily? Thxxxxx
Risharb, I do mean VMAP charts of HSI futures. Does the added point help your trading? Also, is HSI your first choice if you could only pick one futures market to trade?
Drop me a pm with your email handle and I'll send some jpegs. I'd rather not clutter the thread with that many images. Yes, I do play the VWAP on occasion as a pivot. I've only recently began trading direction/discretionary. I wouldn't take the HSI as my primary market, simply too schizophrenic. If I had to choose a market; it would likely be the DAX, followed closely by the YM. YM is a bit too small for my liking.
Just an update. I have started to trade the HSI fairly regularly. I think it works for trend catchers and reversal players. Being that it moves so much, even the retracements are volatile enough to be a nice move countertrend. And if you're a trend catcher, well just look at a chart on almost any day and you'll see a nice 30 pt move in an instance. I wonder how long this future has been like this. Oh, and I found this: http://www.hkex.com.hk/tradinfo/futurestradehour/tradcalend_1.htm
