Kiwi, that is exactly what I have noticed. Also I have noticed high packet loss or delays one hop before IB server. I am not getting funny here but wonder if that is Timberhill who by the nature of their operation would presumably be a lag factor between me and order execution?
one hop before the IB server is the HK internet and not IB. If you are receiving packet loss there, we'd be happy to call up our ISP's to discuss it but that is beyond our control. I run a TWS every day with a few market depth windows in addition to option chain and the main pages. I can't recall the last time I lost connectivity. I know you'd like us to be less sensitive to packet loss but if data is being lost in transmission I don't know if I'd want to actively trade. Keep in mind we do have the web trader alternative which may not be not as sensitive. In addition, you could use a mobile or PDA as a backup.
Def, Can I suggest that you do take this up with your ISP as it is something I have noticed frquently when monitoring the connection. I am pleased that TWS is working well for you but the posts on this board suggest that this happy situation is not experienced by all your users. It seems that people who appreciate the overall IB product are growing weary of the reliability issues. If I am representative, we don't want to move we want you to address these issues so that we can stay and take advantage of a product offering that we otherwise think highly of. I acknowledge that there is a tradeoff somewhere between order integrity and stabilty of connection and maybe no easy answer, but as noted elsewhere I get multiple disconnects but have had maybe one or two problems with orders in the whole time I have traded through you*. This is an acceptable error parameter. (Note when I talk of acceptable parameters I am NOT talking here about other problems with resting stops which are already on IB's server or the latency problems experienced with market orders which I do not experience with Marketable Limits or Marketable STOP MARKET). Thanks for the suggestion but I don't think I will be looking at trading HSI with a browser based platform. * Note if TWS has disconnected and is re loggin in that is a problem and has been very expensive on more than one occasion. What I am talking about is some order error when there was no actual disconnect and which I suspect was due to TWS error handling. Once again, this IS within aceptable parameters. Nothing works 100%, 100% of the time.
To be fair, there seem to be only a few of you complaining about the HK server. I've asked the help desk and they say there are very few calls during any given week in regards to loss of connection. When you are having a problems again, please contact the HK desk, let them know your ISP and we'll check our end of things. Now if you don't mind, lets' move this thread back to discussion on HSI and reply to any comments regarding connectivity here: http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=801053#post801053
Can anybody tell me where I can buy 5 minute data for HSI - Both TickData and ANF do not do it. Any suggestions much appreciated.
If you want a few months of 5 minute ascii data (csv) I can send it to you. Dont use an email address, just let me know and I will put it in usendit and give u a url.
Dear Def, you really have no right to tell members where to post their comments or suggestions just to suit you or your companies "loss of face". Especially given the polite message from Mokwit. You may cordially ask but not tell! May I suggest that you treat all negative comments as a blessing as you have the opportunity to correct the problem. Other disgruntled clients may simply go elsewhere for HSIF. eg http://www.poems.com.hk/e_home.htm You erroneouly presume that all people who have problems with your server are members of elitetrader.com and therefore this forum is representative of the scale of the issue. with cordial regards MB
hey botelho64 you some kind of promoter for that HK broker ? you really make me laugh with your comments
No, just giving people alternatives if they are unhappy with connectivity with IB Members should be allowed to post what they like where they like as long as it is not offensive. rgds MB
I never said otherwise. Perhaps read a bit more carefully where I said that this is an HSI thread not an IB thread. I then provided a link to a thread regarding IB connectivity. Why resurrect a 4 month old thread with an off topic comment?
