Thanks for the reply. So, what am I asking to change to ? What will allow me to trade from 9:30 to 00:30 daily ? ( to cover U.S. market and Hang Seng )
Well, I guess HSI manage to leaves you guys speechless this last 2 weeks hit my trailing stop after +200pts or so (and continue upward after that, tough luck) cheers
I enter long @14105 (11 July, right after break out of 1st session high) and exit @14310 (13 July, 15 mins before closing, and also lower part of the gap at 26 June-resistance). Now that you ask me, I think it was more mental stop than technical stop. I usually scalp and at the time I already got more than what I intend to, so I exit. Been playing "what-if" game for a week now, i.e. "what if i don't exit at the time, i would be on Hawaii rite now"
You folks are in for a treat. If you get filled while trading the HangSeng and IB's server drops off, you might as well kiss your account goodbye. By the time you get them on the phone to close out a position, this market can move a hundred points against you easy. As IB what their "position" is if this happens to you. Frankly I would rather use a broker with a stable connection to the exchange and pay a few more dollars commish. Let IB experiment on somebody else. Steve
I am in HK using HK server and I have an IB connection drop off about once every 2 months on average. Roughly. These are disconnections I attribute to IB. Disconnections due to my ISP provider is another story.
OK Def: Lets find out then. I'll start a thread asking IB customers how they would rate their connection to HK, and how often they experience server drop off. Lets be clear that we are talking about server drop off not ISP problems. This means that the customer's internet connection is viable, but they see that the quotes on IB's platform have dropped off (for whatever reason).
It's somewhere in the middle as TWS is very sensitive to poor internet connections. Somehere around 10-11 oclock* every day I lose my TWS connection (only TWS) and cannot get market depth back. I have a lot of problems with my ISP lately which are perhaps beyond what a platform should be built to stand, but I am beginning to think this is an IB issue - especially as others are having similar issues. Also it happens around the same time when I connect with another ISP. All the quotes vanish on the TWS page and then reappear, whereas with a disconnection I attribute to ISP they just stop. * NO it's not the server reset.
I almost never lose the connection (once?) but have been watching the network connection from Aus to IB HK using VisualRoute. I have noticed a high packet loss in the queries to the ATT network that IB is connected to in HK. See attached picture for an example. Note that my latency is good but that when I have seen packet drops in the past, problems are never far behind.
