Thanks. I ask about the spread as I currently use a spreadbetting service to place trades. No commission and profits are tax free but the spread is 30 points inside market hours and 60 outside. Suits me so far as I am a mid-long term trend trader, but will ultimately migrate to service like yours 1-3 points is fine by me!
I know that there was a discussion about this future ( Japanese Government Bond) earlier on in this thread, but I would like to ask some more questions about it. Is there anyone who trades this future intraday ? As far as I can see on the charts offered by futuresource, this future doesn't seem to move at all intraday, but is a great mover on a daily basis. It gaps very often but once a trend has been established it stays in that trend for quite some time... where should I trade it ? At the TSE ? Could anyone telle me where I can get free charts of this future ? Futuresource seems to prive data from the CME, so there is almost nothing to be seen due to the low volume... Thanks in advance. Question for Def or who ever can answer. last night 4/27/05 in USA 4/28/05 in Hong Kong. The April contract is still the front month but the May looked to be way more liquid and alot tighter. I am wondering when the majority of players switch to the next month? HKFE web site says that the 29th is the last trading day? Thanks in advance. Jim
TSE is where you want to get the data from. You can trade them at the TSE. That is where the BIG market is for JGB's. However, you can use the TSE data (better because of the liquidity) and trade the mini jgb at SGX. The Mini JGB is only 1/10th the size. The JGB on TSE has a 10k margin in US dollars and the mini is only 1k. The mini JGB has plenty of size in the deck and is heavily arbed between SGX and TSE. The daily data from SGX is fine but if you want good intraday data subscribe to TSE. Do not waste your time with CME. Dont know of any Free charts.
The 28th was expiration. Expiration is always the next to last business day of the month. If the site said last trading day is the 29th, you are either looking at the wrong month or they are mis-taken. (Monday is a holiday in HK - we had somewhat of an ownership change out here a few years back and now must celebrate labor day as they do in the montherland - albeit the mainland shuts down for a week (as an aside, those in HK might expect some clean air and nice views next week)). Back to HK: The 'front month' is only a term to describe the more active future. In HK, the expiring month is usually most active until the day before expiration. The future roll coming into expiration though is very tight (1 tick) and very deep (thousands up) so you can trade the second month with confidence a few days before expiration. The settlement price in HK is determined by the average price of the index taken every 5 minutes during the day. On expiration the expiring future will not move as much as a result.
Thanks for the response. You are right about the expiration being the 28th. I dont know what I was looking at. It sounds like its just a case of follow the liquidity. This was my first time dealing with the roll and i thought i would ask the expert. you! as you know here in the US we start trading the second month a couple of weeks before the contract goes off the board. so i just wanted a little clarification as to the HSI roll. Thank you very much for your response. Now i can get back to donating my money to the HSI! Jim
No worries, HK is straight forward. Other markets like Australia (where equity options do not expire the same day as the index options/futures) are more confusing. Send me a PM if ever a question in regards to ex-dates in the region.
Def, I know this has been touched on before but I don't really see any information that answers this: I keep losing market data, my "connection" from TWS to IB, just before midnight east coast while trading HSI. My auto log off is set to 03:00. Is this IB servers resetting or something ? Can't trade HSI like this.
Sounds like you are on the US server. If you send an e-mail to the helpdesk, with Server change in the subject, then we can change your server over the weekend. Server times are listed here: http://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/software/systemStatus.php?ib_entity=llc
